MRAP: Ground vehicles. The big machines at war that protect our people.
Warfighters use these vehicles to mitigate explosively formed penetrators, grenades, underbody mines and fire threats.
The U.S. Department of Defense MRAP program began in 2007 to counter explosive device blasts during the Iraq War. From 2007 until 2012, the program deployed 12,000+ vehicles in the Iraq War and War in Afghanistan.
SAIC is continuing to build upon this program by modifying, upgrading and sustaining ground vehicles for our nation's armed forces in South Carolina. We're working with Category II vehicles, weighing about 19 tons, for convoy escort, troop transport, and ambulance evacuation, transporting up to 10 personnel.
