Job Description


SAIC is seeking an Embedded SW Eng Sr to support the US Navy in Indianapolis, IN.

Note: This position is a hybrid remote position with 2-3 days a week telework and approximately 2-3 days a week on site.


  • Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that require low level control processing (Interrupts, Timers Digital I/O and serial communication protocols) for electronic equipment.
  • Develops embedded software for use on real-time operating systems and processors using microcontrollers.
  • Requires basic knowledge of reading schematics of complex electronic assemblies.
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
  • Ensures software standards are met.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet outlined objectives. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Work is reviewed by management to measure whether objectives have been met.
  • PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives.
  • FREEDOM TO ACT: Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • IMPACT: Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.
  • LIASON: Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.




  • Bachelors and five (5) years’ experience; OR Master’s and three (3) years’ experience.
  • Experience with embedded programming in C/C++.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Active Security Clearance not required, but must be able to obtain a Secret clearance. 


  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553, SPI, and Ethernet communication interfaces; Experience with ThreadX, uC/OS-III, RTEMS, or other similar embedded RTOS; Experience with STMicro or other equivalent ARM Cortex-M7 microcontrollers.
  • Experience with IAR Embedded Workbench Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
  • Experience with Agile software process utilizing Atlassian Jira/Confluence; Experience with Git, Jenkins, and DevSecOps concepts.
  • Experience with DO-178C software process
  • Experience with Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE)

Target salary range: $115,001 - $125,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
