Description

SAIC is looking for an Engineering Technician III in Crane, IN.

 The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

 Type of work performed

• Extracting battery modules out of crates using a forklift to perform tasks such as visual inspections, injecting faults, and taking calibrated readings using a Digital Multi-Meter.
• Fabricating cables for batteries, software management systems and charging racks
• Conducting tests on batteries and equipment, such as a charge, discharge, balance, pressure, and leak
• Repairing damaged wires, harnesses, and solder joints.
• Calibrating equipment
• Some fabrication using drill press, band saw, hole saw cutter, dremel, wrenches, taps, screwdrivers, and rivet guns.
• Troubleshooting and repairing batteries if deficiencies are identified

 Examples of specific work performed

• Travel to Virginia to maintain a 350-Volt, Lithium-ion battery system.
• Conducting a full battery cycle, including charge, balancing, and capacity discharge checks
• Maintaining battery inventory at NSWC Crane as spare assets
• Loading and unloading battery pods and trays with a fork lift f (OTA)
• Inspecting battery modules and components, including visual inspections, injecting faults, and taking calibrated readings.
• Wiring Data Acquisition system and connecting it to monitor battery parameters such as voltage and temperature.
• Constructing portable battery off gas analyzer units for Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) cells
• Performing battery cell qualification tests
• Activating large oil-compensated silver zinc battery cells with electrolytess
• Perform formation cycles per manufacturer's recommendations
• Perform wet-life qualification testing on batteries

Qualifications

Required:

• Must be able to obtain Secret Clearance
• 6 - 8 years' of experience
• High School Diploma
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Project

Desired:

• Technical certificate in Automotive, Electronics, HVAC or Computer IT
• Experienced in following engineering drawing, electrical schematics and work orders
• J-STD 001 certification
• Forklift License
• Military training/experience
