Description
SAIC has an opening for a Principal Database Administrator to join our talented, dynamic team. The key responsibilities for this position include:
- Identify user requirements, implementing computer databases, and testing and coordinating modifications to the computer database systems
- Enhance the quality of data in existing repositories and prepare the data for migration to a new system
- Evaluate data quality, consistency, and adherence to standards
- Ensure system performance, comprehend the platform on which the database runs, and add new users to the system
- Formulate plans for data quality enhancements and mature existing data holdings to align with the overarching client strategy
- Assistance with on-boarding of new partners for data migration needs
- Serve as a database administrator on both Oracle and SQL Server databases, in both development and production environments
- Performance tune enterprise production database
- Perform and manage data replication using Oracle GoldenGate
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required. (8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Must be able to successfully undergo a Veterans Affairs Minimum Background Investigation (VA MBI)
Required Skills for the position:
- Proficiency as an Oracle DBA
- Proficiency as a SQL Server DBA
- Experience with Oracle GoldenGate administration (setup and maintenance of Extracts and Replicate to processes filter and replicate data at the very least)
- Experience with Oracle Advanced Data Guard setup, configuration, monitoring and debugging
- Experience with SSIS and T-SQL as an ETL solution
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks
- Strong time management skills, and ability to adjust to change
- Team player with an ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
- High degree of self-motivation to learn and creative “out of the box” thinker”
- Strong listening skills, strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to be part of a production support on-call rotation
Preferred Skills for this position:
- Experience with Power BI
- Data modeling experience using E/R Studio, Erwin or Toad Data Modeler
- Experience with database physical design, emphasizing stability and scalability
- Experience with database performance tuning, optimization
- Experience with backup and recovery concepts, tools and implementation
- Experience working in an Agile environment using Kanban
- Experience implementing technology projects in the Federal space preferably Veterans Affairs
- Knowledge of the following:
o GitHub
o Jira
- Other DBA-related certifications
