Description

As a highly skilled and experienced Business Unit Technical Director, you will provide expertise in supporting a growth strategy by expanding existing customer relationships, anticipating current and future needs, developing new business opportunities, and cultivating partner relationships. The Business Unit Technical Director oversees all technology and technological resources, establishing technology vision, strategies, and growth plans. You will set strategies and make executive technology decisions on behalf of the organization, including managing a technology budget and making the necessary investments to align the organization with its vision for its technological needs. Additionally, the Business Unit Technical Director will be responsible for leading the ideation and development of innovative and differentiating technical and engineering solutions that support the business strategy. This position is based in Chantilly, VA and will require travel (primarily in the WMA) to meet with customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively establish relationships and meet with current and potential customers to demonstrate the company's credentials at solving problems with technically differentiated solutions
  • Lead the development of the operation’s annual internal research and development portfolio and provide guidance to and management oversight of all projects
  • Work directly with the business unit Senior Vice President, serving as both a technology and business expert, making decisions impacting current and future operations
  • Collaborate with all managers and business development & strategy leaders to drive solutions into priority captures, proposals, and major programs
  • Actively participate in the definition and implementation of the long-term technology strategy aligned to the Company technology strategy and goals
  • Closely partners with business unit leadership to ensure the technology strategy is aligned with the organization's strategic plan and is reflected in the business development plans
  • Consult with business leadership on potential solutions to customer requirements
  • Seek partnerships with strategic suppliers, renowned universities, and research institutions to increase learning opportunities and sponsor research projects
  • Provide technical leadership at the enterprise level and serve an integral role in operations and business development. Developing objectives and strategies for the implementation of innovative solutions while optimizing existing systems, applications, and information
  • Make recommendations and present business advantages for technology initiatives and improvements
  • Provides leadership to the team in identifying, comparing, selecting, and implementing technology solutions and partnerships to meet current and future needs. Tracking and controlling the developments of annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing and technology operations
  • Designs and leads the implementation of our strategy for technology while ensuring the implementation and enforcement of technology standards are held across the organization
  • Advocates and communicates technology capabilities internally and externally, including leadership, customers, partners, and vendors
  • Shares information and develops a collective understanding of programs and issues.
  • Structures technology policies, procedures, and standards to ensure organizational success
  • Makes technology-related recommendations supported by data for policy adoption that includes analysis of current regulatory actions, technological innovations, and fiduciary considerations
  • Conducts research to remain up-to-date and knowledgeable regarding industry trends and emerging technologies in anticipation of new processes and system alterations, as well as to analyze and improve upon technology standards across the organization to maintain a technological advantage for teaching and learning.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or related field
    • Master’s degree in business or a technology-related discipline preferred.
  • At least 10 years with organizational management, process improvement successes, strong financial acumen, successes leading complex contractual relationships, excellent understanding of customer behavior, and keen insights regarding technology and business trends. Experience includes executive leadership roles demonstrating a track record of technology innovation, design, development, and implementation.
  • Demonstrated success delivering customer-centric tools, having added value to the end uses while also anticipating internal operational needs and delivering tools that resulted in value-added services to the organization.
  • Proven success building high-performing technical teams and working with rapid growth and implementing change
  • A strategic thinker and effective communicator offering expertise in technological development and the demonstrated ability to implement and execute organizationally.
  • Demonstrated experience in the responsibility for the development and mentoring of a set of mid to senior level technical staff.
