Job Description

Description

Provide Systems Engineering and Technical Analysis (SETA) support in the design, development, manufacture, testing, integration, launch, and operation of multiple advanced spaceborne electro-optical payloads.

Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in an interactive team environment with Government customer leads, payload developers, and other subject matter experts.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to support the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of advanced optical payload components, assemblies, and subsystems.
  • Assist in requirements development, and support requirements flow-down and traceability.  Assist with ensuring compliance to interfaces and standards, or ensure appropriate deviations/waivers are in place.
  • Evaluate system, subsystem and unit level design, as necessary, to determine if the design is adequate to meet program requirements and is cost effective.
  • Assess subsystem technical performance within cost and schedule constraints.  Identify risks to program plans and schedules, and support development of corrective action plans.
  • Participate in Failure Review Boards (FRBs) to troubleshoot and resolve anomalies and test failures.  Develop mitigation plans and identify impacts to subsystem, spacecraft, and mission performance.
  • Confirm requirements verification by evaluating unit, subsystem, and vehicle performance and environmental test data, analysis, and inspection results.
  • Assist in preparation of RFP documentation (SOWs, CDRLs, specifications, etc.) and conduct ECP technical evaluations.
  • When COVID restrictions ease, travel within the U.S. approximately one to two times per month for approximately 2-3 days per trip.

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering, Physics, or similar technical discipline
  • Experience with space borne electronics design, analysis, and environmental testing
  • System Acquisition experience, specifically writing and evaluating requirements, procuring hardware, and monitoring development contractor performance
  • Experience designing/performing signal chain demonstrations
  • Experience working in a spacecraft System Program Office (SPO) or a satellite development facility
  • Able to confidently and proactively execute Government acquisition intent, within the bounds of SETA authority but in the absence of detailed Government direction, while interacting with prime- and sub-contractors to ensure Program development remains on schedule, technically sound, and within budget
  • Able to work effectively with a variety of engineers in different disciplines and organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS in Engineering, Physics, or similar technical discipline
  • 3 or more years of experience designing, analyzing, building and testing high performance electronics
  • 4 or more years of experience with spaceborne electronics design, analysis, and environmental testing
  • 3 or more years of System Acquisition experience, specifically writing and evaluating requirements, procuring hardware, and monitoring development contractor performance
  • Understanding of radiation effects on electronics performance
  • Knowledge of Sensor and Electronics Calibration techniques and approaches
  • Experience with multiple spacecraft programs and a variety of spacecraft subsystems, to include electro-optical payloads
