JOB DESCRIPTION:

SAIC has an opportunity for a Mission Protection Systems Engineer in Springfield, VA to provide systems engineering and technical advisory services focused on protection of mission systems.  He/she will:

  • Assist in developing systems architectures, concepts of operations (CONOPS) and associated requirements, and oversee integration of protection systems
  • Oversees integration of space protection functions/capabilities of delivered systems; provides analysis of schedules, capabilities delivered best meet operational needs—near, and long-term.
  • Provide end to end system engineering for the entire life cycle of a program
  • Support requirements development, interface control documentation, technical specification review, architecture and CONOPS development 
  • Help develop standards, tools, and procedures for use on projects including but not limited to risk and issues, change and information management
  • Deliver analysis and recommendations to multiple customers; provide supporting data, possible risks and impacts, and potential improvements to government managers and other points of contact
  • Review documentation, represent government as required in forums that support streamlined delivery of new capabilities and standardization of integration efforts

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors of Science degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) or relevant field and 14+ years of relevant space operations and systems engineering experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more experience,  STEM degree is contractually required

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of satellite constellations, spacecraft orbit, and ground station characteristics
  • Systems engineering lifecycle experience from concept development and design to deployment and operational maintenance
  • Experience with architecture, CONOPS, requirements development, interface control documentation, technical specification review
  • Experience in NRO system engineering processes and mission systems
  • Self-starter, master at multi-tasking; proactively develops plans, acts, and drives tasks to closure
  • Thought leader; expert at solving complex, abstract customer requirements
  • Polished communicator, written and verbal
  • Quickly crafts briefings and talking points for the government with minimal guidance.  Represents government and their interests in various forums as needed.
  • Collaborates effectively with contractor, SETA, FFRDC, and Government teammates

Desired Skills/Education:

  • Familiar with systems development processes (e.g. AGILE, Spiral, Waterfall, etc.) and cloud technologies
  • Familiar with JIRA, Confluence
  • PMP, INCOSE, SAFe certifications

Clearance:  TS/SCI with poly required
