We are seeking a highly motivated Database Administrator to join our program to provide robust data management in the IC using industry best practices and support the customer’s mission through data discovery and sharing of new insights using existing and emerging technologies.  The Database Administrator will provide support to data ingestion, processing, and storage infrastructure and systems through data management, data ingest and conditioning, and data transport. This position further requires working with various mission stakeholders, communicating system features and concepts to other users and developers, and interacting with program management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating testing, installing, upgrading, and managing database applications, including the Oracle suite of programs in an AWS or other cloud environment;
  • Developing triggers, functions, procedures, and packages utilizing PL/SQL;
  • Ensuring database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss;
  • Evaluating and making recommendations on data integrity;
  • Implementing changes to improve database performance and functionality and applying new patches and versions when required;
  • Minimizing database downtime and managing parameters to provide fast query responses;
  • Monitoring database performance, and taking proactive steps to identify and document problems that arise, and work with Sponsor to implement solutions;
  • Maintaining database infrastructure, accounts, and accesses, to include relevant data sharing partnerships
  • Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance;
  • Tracking and analyzing data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities;
  • Working with Sponsor to design and implement data dictionaries and database structures in accordance with Sponsor’s data, metadata, and technical needs;
  • Assisting other developers, debugging various development and O&M processes, and system documentation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with polygraph clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related discipline.  Note that years of experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience as a Database Administrator in four or more following activities:
    • Data backup, recovery, security, and integrity;
    • Utilizing DevOps tools and services such as Github, Puppet, and Jenkins;
    • Database design, documentation, and coding;
    • Database standards and end user applications;
    • DBA case tools such as SQL Developer and DB PowerStudio;
    • Data manipulation languages including SQL and specifically Oracle Database (PL/SQL);
    • Previous experience working with business analytics
  • Familiarity with programming languages API
  • Analytic mindset, good problem solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and collaboration skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in debugging performance and technical issues;
  • Excellent verbal/written communications and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly and accurately to both technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to changing priorities.
