SAIC has been awarded a task to support the Office of Experimental Sciences (NA-113) Technical, Analytical, Programmatic and Integration Support Services.  This organization is a key part of the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Program.  It addresses both basic and applied science and engineering associated with weapon design, engineering, margins of uncertainty, development of diagnostics and major experimental facilities.  It works closely with the Los Alamos, Livermore, and Sandia National Laboratories and the Nevada Nuclear Security Site (old Nevada Test Site).  Also works with the nuclear weapon production sites and DoD relevant weapon system program offices.

Ideal candidates will have general knowledge of the Nuclear Weapons science portfolio and expertise in several specific aspects of it and will be skilled in program and project management.  No advanced technical degree required but experience as a technically oriented generalist able to evaluate and assign complex technical tasks to staff is needed. 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and five (5) years or more of related experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE Q
  • Must have experience working in a DOE or National Laboratory working with Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) projects.
  • Must have experience working on at least one of the following types of ICF projects:
    • Provide Investigating material behaviors in HED regimes presently inaccessible via other experimental techniques.
    • Support Improving the predictive capability of our science and engineering models in high-pressure, high-energy, high-density regimes.
    • Develop high-fidelity diagnostics and advanced experimental platforms.
    • Characterizing and understanding instabilities prevalent in plasmas and thermonuclear environments. 
    • Maintain the scientific leadership necessary to recruit, train, and retain the highest caliber scientists and engineers to engage in stockpile stewardship
    • Assist with making progress towards the achievement and application of ignition multi-megajoule fusion yields.
    • Experience with High Energy Density (HED) and Ignition Science for Stockpile Applications 
    • Experience with ICF Diagnostics and Instrumentation 
    • Experience with ICF Facility Operations
  • Must have computer experience using standard applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Must have outstanding communication skills both written and verbal and have the ability to communicate with a variety of people at all levels in an organization.
  • Must be able to communicate complex scientific reports and develop these reports from data analysis to others who may be not technical both via presentation and in written reports.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in the proper use and handling of classified information desired.
  • Prior experience as an Authorized Derivative Classifier for DOE or a comparable role in support of another federal agency desired.

Position will be primarily remote. Candidate must be local to DC Metro area and able to be on-site as requested by the client.

 


Target salary range: $125,001 - $150,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
