SAIC is seeking a Robot Software Infrastructure Development and IT Operations (DevOps) Engineer on the OMES II contract in support of the On-orbit Servicing Assembly and Manufacturing (OSAM-1) program with NASA’s Exploration and In-Space Services Projects (NExIS) division.  This position is located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.

OSAM-1 is a robotic servicing mission designed to refuel a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. It contains 3 elements: the Flight Element comprised of the OSAM-1 Servicing Vehicle (RSV) and development testbeds, the Ground Element comprised of the systems required to conduct RSV operations and the supporting networks and facilities, and the Launch Element comprised of the Launch Vehicle and supporting facilities and services. NExIS is responsible for the design, engineering, development, test, and operations of the OSAM-1 Mission through an integrated team at GSFC. The Servicing Payload design, development and RSV integration will be conducted at GSFC.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The DevOps engineer will support the design, development and maintenance of the information systems infrastructure used to support robot activities.  The DevOps engineer will be familiar with infrastructure and system administration work to ensure smooth integration software and hardware. The DevOps engineer will work closely with other robot software developers, robot operators, and other professionals to support both space flight operations and ground development activities.

Job duties include:

  • Develop, maintain and deploy Ansible/Ansible AWX based solutions for all of NExIS computing and insure complete development to completion of operational cycles.
  • Maintain full development cycle and maintenance cycle for Ansible code base.
  • Have understanding of information systems and services, across the full spectrum of hardware, virtual, and containerized solutions to support robot system development and robot operations.
  • Evaluate and implement new software and solutions.
  • Ensure systems are patched in accordance with maintenance plan processes.
  • Maintain inventory of highly specialized information systems and network assets.
  • Participate in weekly planning and status meetings with various stakeholders.
  • Support robot personnel end user systems.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with development, maintenance and deployment of Ansible and Ansible AWX.
  • General system administration experience such as building and administering high-availability ubuntu based servers and clients, including all hardware, OS, and software, installation and maintenance activities.
  • Experience managing a moderate (100+) base of server, client, and workstation, computers spread across multiple geographic locations.
  • Experience with Apache and web applications such as Jenkins and Redmine.
  • Experience with virtualization systems such as VMWare ESXi and Docker.
  • Experience with source control such as GIT.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • General understanding of NASA IT operations and/or support of NASA flight mission operation.
  • Managing and maintaining LDAP.
  • Bash scripting.
  • YAML.
