Information Technology systems-administration activities in support of the NASA Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering Contract II (SMAEC II) in Houston, TX.
Primary responsibilities of this position will be to assist Senior Systems Administrators with the day-to-day operations of the server infrastructure used to support the Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Directorate at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). The position involves having skills related to installing, configuring and maintaining Windows server hardware and software, and keeping servers on-line and fully functional at all times. Position also involves providing systems administration to support servers that host applications with web-based interfaces and associated databases. Candidate will assist in implementing IT-security safeguards for protecting SMA data and systems and will support security control testing for information system security plans. Position involves working closely with application-development teams, providing the server administration support needed for development, testing and production environments. Candidate will also assist in providing day-to-day desktop/laptop support, working with end users to assess technical issues and implement solutions, and obtaining assistance from additional service providers when appropriate. Candidate must be able to work with little instructions on day-to-day work and general instructions on new assignments, and must be able to develop and maintain personal work plans and schedules. Candidate must also possess solid verbal and written communication skills and interact effectively with all levels of personnel. The ability to work closely with others in a team environment is required.
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and two (2) years or more experience; Masters and 0 years related experience
Candidate must have a competent level of proficiency with the following software/technologies:
• Microsoft Windows operating systems
• Microsoft Server operating systems
• Microsoft SQL Server
• Microsoft Windows Internet Information Services (IIS)
Desired skills include:
• VMware virtual environments
• Microsoft SharePoint
• NIST SP 800 series implementation and the Risk Management Framework
• Configuring and monitoring event logs
• Managing NTFS permissions
• Installing operating system and application updates and security patches, and troubleshooting/resolving hardware and software issues that arise
• Experience in the NASA Johnson Space Center IT environment and familiarity with Information Resources Directorate policies, procedures, and systems is desirable, but not required
