SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to join the Identity and Data Sciences Laboratory (IDSL) in support of identifying, testing, and evaluating novel systems and processes that may improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction of customer field activities. The IDSL team works with technologies that include biometric acquisition and data processing systems, data capture instrumentation and recording systems, and high throughput screening systems.  The IDSL team operates the Maryland Test Facility (MdTF; http://mdtf.org) to carry out both large and small scale evaluations. The candidate will join a multi-disciplined team composed of scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts working to design, build, and execute the test cases required to gather and analyze the data needed to make qualitive and quantitative recommendations in support of our customer goals. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a hands-on environment with work primarily being performed onsite in a research setting, with additional opportunities to support field tests and pilots. This is an onsite position based in Upper Marlboro, MD and expects up to 10% travel within the continental US.  Compensation DOE.

The Systems Engineer will:

  • Develop and execute test and evaluation plans for new generation hardware and software components and systems and generate technical reports documenting findings.
  • Build and configure computer-based data collection systems by identifying, acquiring, integrating, and installing necessary assemblies, sub-assemblies, and software. 
  • Setup and configure lighting, power, and other infrastructure required to meet the data collection and process flow requirements of facility test events.
  • Instrument laboratory and field-test environments including developing and executing interconnectivity wiring plans to meet hardware and software data communication and power requirements.
  • Design, fabricate and assemble prototype system components and devices using on-premises CAD modeling software, 3D printers, basic shop tools, and other rapid prototyping methods in support of CONOPS and device testing

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS and 4+ years of hands-on engineering experience, MS and 2+ years of engineering experience, or equivalent military/field experience.
  • Must be U.S. citizen with ability to obtain DHS Public trust.
  • Basic computer assembly and setup, software installation, configuration, and maintenance.

Desired Qualifications:

 

  • Work in a research environment.
  • Biometric systems hardware, software, and data collection.
  • Windows and Linux LAN/WAN setup and configuration.
  • Experience in the proper and safe use of basic hand and power tools.
  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment for signal measurement and diagnostics.
  • 3D modeling, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping.
  • Developing and executing power, data, and network wiring plans.
  • Automation script development in Visual Basic, PowerShell, Python, Java or similar.
