Job Description


SAIC is looking for a OpenSearch Systems Administrator to join our team in support of the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) Integrated Technical Services (HITS) Contract for DoD High Performance Computing Centers. 

NOTE: This is a 100% virtual / remote position that can be accomplished from anywhere in the continental U.S.


  • Performs operations and maintenance for an OpenSearch cluster, including but not limited to:
    • OpenSearch software deployment, updates, and configuration
    • Performance tuning of the OpenSearch application
    • Develop/implement data management policies and practices
    • Interface with infrastructure services for authentication and networking
    • Implement/support security accreditation activities as required by the host site
  • Implements data collection methods to gather information from monitored systems:
    • Architect/design/implement/update data collection paradigm utilizing commercial, open source, and locally developed utilities
    • Interact with system administrators to deploy data collection tools
    • Develop pipelines for Logstash to process and augment data for ingest into OpenSearch
  • Perform and support data analysis on the data contained in the OpenSearch cluster
    • Develop dashboards, visualization, and other data products
    • Support HPCMP staff members in using the OpenSearch tools
    • Provide informational briefings and training on the use of OpenSearch tools
  • Uses applicable methodologies, modeling/estimating techniques, tools, applications, systems, software, and databases to perform assigned tasks.
  • Develops/maintains technical documentation (Administration guides, data dictionaries, briefings)



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related field and five (5) years of relevant experience.  Four (4) years of related experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree.


  • Recent experience with OpenSearch and/or Elasticsearch operations and deployment, including related tools such as logstash, filebeat, and metricbeat
  • Recent experience with bash scripting and Linux command-line tools
  • Recent experience managing a major software application in a production environment
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines consistently
  • Must maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed


  • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain the interim Secret Security clearance to begin working on the contract.  Must be able to obtain the full Secret Security clearance.  SAIC will assist with the process of obtaining the interim Secret clearance for the qualified candidate.


  • Familiar with DoD (or DISA) security hardening guidance and regulations for both Operating Environment and Applications
  • Data Analytics experience using OpenSearch/ElasticSearch with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Python scripts
  • Strong technical writing skills for creating system documentation and user guides
  • Briefing skills for presenting technical information to management and end users
  • Linux System Administration experience
  • Scripting experience using languages such as Python and Ruby

Target salary range: $125,001 - $150,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
