Job Description


Are you looking for a unique opportunity to solve complex cybersecurity challenges?  Do you want to be on the ground floor of a team whose work will protect and shape national airspace cybersecurity?  Are you a team player with experience in mathematical modeling applications such as MATLab or EXata? 

SAIC in support of NASA Glenn Research Center is researching new cybersecurity measures and protocols to secure US airspace communications.  The proliferation of drones and UAVs bring unique challenges to developing secure communication networks to prevent bad actors from disrupting commercial and military aircraft as well as ground and space support systems.  We are looking for a big picture thinker with mathematical modeling expertise in the cyber arena. Modeling may include such things as the impact of cybersecurity measures upon embedded processor throughput, communication congestion, and the impact of mitigation technologies applied to the end-to-end system.

You will work on a team developing the cybersecurity architecture or tomorrow.  This is not a job implementing well-known cyber tools to mitigate standard threats.  This is research to protect all aspects of aviation communication including air-to-ground, air-to-air, and air-to-space links.  If you have the right qualifications and are up to the challenge, you may get the opportunity to making a significant impact in the protection of all levels of air transportation.



Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

Clearance: Must have a Public Trust clearance; US Citizenship required

Required Skills and Qualities:

  • Experience in mathematical modeling
  • Experience researching cybersecurity on complex distributed systems
  • Independent researcher and excellent team player

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with NASA, DoD or INCOSE Systems Engineering processes and practices
  • Experience with Exata or Exata Cyber software
  • Familiarity with telecommunications
  • Familiarity with national airspace operations
  • Experience or working knowledge of systems security and safety engineering principles and practice in NIST 800-160

Work Location Clarification:

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the current primary location of work is via telework from each staff member's home. On-site work is expected post-pandemic.
