SAIC is looking to hire a skilled Biometrics Systems Engineer to assist with large and small human-subjects scenario test events with biometric technologies (e.g., fingerprint, face, iris recognition) in Upper Marlboro, MD. This is a hybrid position that can be worked partially remote within the DCMV area. As a biometric systems engineer, you will be responsible for assisting with planning and implementing test events, examining emerging biometric technologies and software with a diverse team at the Identity and Data Sciences Laboratory (IDSL). The IDSL operates at the Maryland Test Facility (MdTF; http://mdtf.org), a recognized leader in large scale technology testing. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a hands-on environment with work primarily being performed onsite in a research setting, with additional opportunities to support external testing with expected travel up to 10% within the continental US. Compensation depends on experience.

The test engineer will:

  • Become proficient with new biometric software and hardware systems, conduct technology foraging activities, and become familiar with in-house systems used for test activities
  • Contribute to test plan development by gathering and documenting test requirements, develop and execute test cases, develop and iterate test procedures, identify testing risks and create mitigation strategies, and assist with carrying out data collection activities
  • Support sensor and system testing, including installing and configuring hardware and software, and conducting functional testing as a part of test preparation activities
  • Track progress of test preparation activities across a diverse set of teams to ensure test activities are aligned across teams by attending team meetings and document decisions and action items   
  • Contribute to the development, review, and submission of impactful US government reports and other deliverables

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or 4 years equivalent practical experience) and 2 years or more experience or a Master’s degree and 0 years of experience in engineering, or other related fields  
  • Must be able to obtain DHS suitability and must be a US Citizen
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Prior experience with designing and carrying out device testing, software testing, or other related testing experience
  • Familiarity with software installation and configuration in Windows and Linux environments
  • Ability to install and configure basic computer system hardware components and establish connections to local area networks and back-end processing systems
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications and diagraming flow charts to document test processes and software design
  • Experience with SQL DB queries to validate software recording proper data and ensure participant data ingested properly prior to testing
  • Experience in scripting in Python
  • Experience with tracking software development using Jira or other similar programs



Target salary range: $75,001 - $100,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
