As part of its Safety and Mission Assurance Engineering Contract (SMAEC)-II with NASA Johnson Space Center, SAIC is seeking talent to assist with Government Mandatory Inspection Point (GMIP) support to NASA’s Orion Program Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV). The Orion GMIP Coordinator position provides direct technical and analytical support to NASA to assist with the agency’s oversight and surveillance of contractors/sub-contractors involved with the design, development, fabrication, testing, and delivery of the Orion crew module. This position will be resident full-time in Denver, CO and will be in direct support of the NASA Quality and Flight Crew Equipment Division (NT) Orion Quality Lead. The Orion GMIP Coordinator will perform critical support tasks such as the following:
· Supply technical assessments to identify GMIPs for Orion hardware end items and associated manufacturing process steps
· Record GMIPs in the appropriate NASA database system
· Coordinate with applicable NASA, Orion supply chain, and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) stakeholders to ensure GMIPs are understood, communicated, implemented, and completed accordingly
· Develop and implement improvement opportunities to reduce or eliminate GMIP inspections with low risk to quality, safety, and mission assurance for the Orion flight hardware
· Communicate any issues, adverse trends, or risks to the Orion Quality Lead
· Provide routine reports of Orion GMIP coordination efforts to the Orion Quality Lead
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical). Other degrees (Aerospace/Aeronautical, STEM, or Business) will be considered along with relevant experience. 10 to 15 years experience.
Required skills: Competency in database utilization – data entry, data reporting, and data analysis
PC literacy with proficiency in the use of Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong presentation skills in technical forums as well as superior verbal and written communication skills.
Desired skills and capabilities include: manned spacecraft critical system knowledge (e.g., environmental control & life support systems, propulsion, pyrotechnics, structures & mechanisms, etc.), a working understanding of the contractor/sub-contractor supply chain for major aerospace projects, the ability to use database systems via data entry and data reporting, and the ability to follow pre-defined key characteristics to identify GMIPs throughout Orion systems. The results of GMIP identification efforts will ultimately delivered to DCMA so they can complete the as-defined GMIPs on the identified end item at the identified manufacturer location. The position develops (and possibly presents) reports to provide status of GMIP activities and progression toward completion of all Orion GMIPs. The position interfaces with senior NASA, Orion Program, the DCMA, and contractor/sub-contractor Quality management personnel. As a result, the position requires the following soft-skill characteristics: outstanding written/oral communications skills, presentation capabilities, self-motivated, and strong interpersonal interaction and communication skills.
