This customer is responsible for designing, building, and operating national security-related systems based in space, in the air, and on the ground. SAIC is seeking a Space Systems Engineer with NRO experience to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) services to a rapidly expanding Government Intelligence Community (IC) customer for a complex system effort as part of an exciting and innovative set of programs. 

This position supports a System Program Office (SPO) in a technical capacity for planning, execution, monitoring, and oversight of program system development and acquisitions that advance the National Reconnaissance Office’s (NRO) space resiliency posture. While seniority is a plus and a knowledge of systems engineering is required, this position can accommodate a junior engineer that is eager to learn and grown in their knowledge and experience of the art of systems engineering.

SAIC is seeking an experienced engineering candidate with technical and practical understanding of space systems and phenomenology. The candidate will need to support advanced technology development and demonstration programs in support of resiliency spanning a diverse set of global threats.  The candidate should have specific experience in the design, development, and testing of various space technologies. The candidate should be comfortable working amongst a diverse and energetic team in the pursuit of mission objectives and project success.

The space system engineer will join a team of on-site SETAs working a program with responsibilities that may include but not limited to the following:  

• Support Contract Officer/Contract Officer Technical Representatives (CO/COTRs) and Developers by coordinating with other technical domain Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and program stakeholders to achieve a detailed understanding of the systems, designs, and interfaces necessary to satisfy mission requirements. 
• Advise the customer on how to coordinate with internal and external community partners to identify technology gaps, design technology development plans, and execute technology projects/programs for successful transition into customer systems 
• Represent the government client to development contractors and ensure proper messaging between the same.
• Participating in technical interchange meetings between developers and COTR for program readiness and design reviews
• Provide technical support to customer activities and programmatic processes
• Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status, brief Government and industry as required
• Provide support to acquisition, source selection, and programmatic processes
• Ensure the R&D efforts are planned and conducted on a sound engineering basis including management of technical risks
• Design and implement technical solutions for new business needs and challenges.
• Research and evaluate new emerging technologies for transition

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering (electrical engineering), scientific (physics), or technical discipline and 9 years or more relevant experience; Master’s degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline and 7 years or more relevant experience.
• Experience with the Intelligence Community (IC) and/or the Department of Defense
• Experience with IC architectures, spacecraft, and payloads
• Ability to lead and be the primary point of contact for one or more projects
• Effective interpersonal skills (across multiple groups, offices, and organizations) and strong customer engagement skills.
• Ability to communicate very technical subjects to a diverse audience of senior decision makers with varying levels of technical expertise using effective briefing and writing
• Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and team environment

Desired Qualifications: 

• Knowledge of how space systems are designed, specified, developed, manufactured, and tested.
• Superb technical skills and experience related to space hardware, and satellite sensors and subsystems (RF Comm, RF payload, or EO payload, e.g.)
• Experience using systems engineering processes, methods, tools, and program roles to develop, implement, and deploy solutions for Satellite Systems.

• Current NRO-adjudicated clearance and polygraph.
