SAIC is seeking a Mechanical Supplier Quality Engr (SQE). This Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) position is one of the key supporting roles to aerospace/defense manufacturing operations. SQE is responsible for developing inspection plans, methods/processes, sampling techniques required to assure the quality of incoming parts and finished goods. The SQE will function as a technical intermediary between suppliers, inspection functions, and the engineering functions at the supplier and AMS. The SQE will help troubleshoot manufacturing defects and provide corrective actions, complete quality management system QMS audits at suppliers, update the PDM system as needed and participate in the engineer change order (ECO) process. Work with purchasing and engineering teams to complete onsite supplier evaluations, inspections, and qualify prospective parts and processes.  The manager set the specific duties and responsibilities. 

***This position is 100% remote nationwide with 50% domestic and international travel required***
 Duties include:

  • Participate in new product development to select suppliers or evaluate requirements for new suppliers.
  • Work as a technical intermediary between the suppliers, inspectors, and engineers to answer questions, resolve or mediate issues and help improve the overall cost of quality for all products.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled supplier audits to ensure compliance per the integrated management system.
  • Work with all stakeholders to determine parts needed for inspection and at what levels or intervals. 
  • Develop inspection plans and metrics for completing the inspection of those parts.
  • Where appropriate, use metrics, data tracking and reporting of quality performance to drive improvements with suppliers and internal processes.
  • Conduct receiving, in process and finished good inspection as needed.
  • Work with purchasing, manufacturing, and engineering to maintain PDM and PLM data and help assure accuracy through inspection process.
  • Diagnose cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of AMS products and provide corrective action plans to eliminate failure. Problem solving in both a manufacturing and engineering prototype environments.
  • Ability to use metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices.
  • Participate in new product design reviews through development stage; document key design changes to ensure successful manufacturing implementation.
  • Participate in LEAN initiative and engage Six Sigma tools for process improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, support group counterparts, and executives to ensure compliance to external and internal quality standards and to meet quality goals.
  • Analyze and make recommendations to help improve quality indices for each department’s business processes and programs.
     

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and nine (9) years or more mechanical engineering, supplier quality, and supplier vetting and assessment experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience.
  • Highly experienced in Aerospace Defense sector
  • ASQ Quality Engineer and/or ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt certifications
  • Travel will be required domestically and internationally

Target salary range: $125,001 - $135,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
