This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to support NASA’s present and future human spaceflight programs.  You will focus on providing support and expertise to the NASA ESD Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) Director and the Johnson Space Center Flight Safety Office. Specific tasks include:

  • Identify and evaluate Enterprise/Top Program risks and Integrated Cross program hazards associated with NASA ESD missions and provide status regarding risk mitigation or risk acceptance. 
  • Provide support to milestone reviews for presentation/collection of data as needed. (√)
  • Evaluate ESD enterprise and program progress and compliance to established requirements and milestone review criteria.
  • Develop and implement S&MA operational plans and procedures to be used during the execution of ESD missions (mission readiness review process, launch countdown and real time mission support). 
  • Provide technical leadership and support for the development and implementation of ESD SMA Certification of Flight Readiness (CoFR) plans, processes, tools and products including SMA pre-flight readiness review process.
  • Manage eCoFR tool for readiness statements signatures by appropriate ESD SMA team.
  • Provide support to the development, review and disposition of ESD mission safety and mission assurance analysis products (hazard analysis.
  • Assess safety and mission assurance analysis products for technical accuracy, completeness and compliance to established requirements.
  • Evaluate flight rules and other operations products for potential impacts to flight safety and mission success including implementation of hazard controls.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations regarding proposed changes/updates and waivers to ESD and program level requirements.
  • Provide support to ESD enterprise and program boards, panels and technical forums, as directed by the ESD S&MA Director.
  • Provide support to pre-mission planning and training activities and provide real- time support during ESD missions as directed by the ESD S&MA Director.
  • Extract data from the ARM database and download powerpoint charts for the EERR, EDRR and the AES/Gateway Risk reviews.
  • Evaluate ESD and Program products for cross program impacts and make sure there are no impacts to cross program hazards.

Qualifications

Must be a US citizen and able to pass a public trust security clearance.

 

EDUCATION:    BS in Engineering, Math, Physics, or other science degree.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS: 

  • Minimum 15 years related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.
  • High degree of technical excellence, integrity, and self-initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple organizations / stakeholders and within a teaming environment to get results.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches, and propose solutions to technical problems.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Power Point, Excel).

 

DESIRED SKILLS: 

  • Safety and Mission Assurance experience is desirable with emphasis on risk management, Certification of Flight Readiness plans/processes/tools/products, pre-flight readiness review process, development/review of FMEA/CIL and hazard analysis, and reliability/maintainability analysis.
  • Experience with mission console operations.
  • Ability to take meeting minutes during ESD Enterprise risk reviews (EERR), weekly Risk management working group meetings and ESD Deputy Director Risk Review (EDRR).
