Description

SAIC is developing a Low Earth Orbit constellation to support warfighter situational awareness, data relay and communications. This will include developing system architectures for Ground and Space segments as well as collaborating and integrating with multiple subcontractors.  Due to the complexity of the program and the collaborative partnerships, developing and tracking clear requirements and verification plans throughout the life of the program will be paramount to the success of the program.  SAIC is currently seeking an experienced Software Engineer to lead the devolpment of our next geneation Ground, Network, Constelation mangement software. The Software Engineer Lead will work closely with a team of experienced Systems Engineers and Architects to implement a state of the art software capability. Interested personnel need good communication skills to be effective in the team’s collaborative work environment. The SAIC team currently uses online collaboration to coordinate their efforts.  This position may require supporting multiple programs and/or roles simultaneously. Interested personnel should be comfortable with multi-tasking and able to provide written/verbal status updates on each project on a regular basis to the Program Manager and Customer.  If selected, the candidate will have the opportunity to telework but may be required, based on mission need, to provide on-sight support when applicable and appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership on various activities related to the definition and tracking of requirements, deriving from the customer-defined Mission Requirements Document down to System, Subsystem and Component levels.
  • Diect customer communications and management of expectations. 
  • Management of software devolpment subcontractors.  
  • Technical oversight and real world experience working with government personel, subcontractors and outsourced developers. 
  • Establish and maintain metrics to track software development progress throughout program life.  
  • Provide leadership and direction in the implementation, adherence, and continuous improvement of the software engineering processes and procedures.  
  • Report progress to Chief Engineer and Program Management, including issues and recommendations to achieve verification and validation closeout on schedule.  
  • Ability to develop systems and software archetecture with associated documentation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field (e.g. Software engineering, Computer Science, Physics, etc.) and eigtheen (18) years or more experience; master’s degree in relevant field and sixteen (16) years or more experience;  PhD or JD and fifteen (15) years or more experience.

  • Proficiency with object oriented devolpment with languages such as: C, C++, Java, Python, web devolpment. 

  • Knowledge of software engineering processes and Agile methodology experience. 

  • Experience with automation in develpoment and testing of software. 

  • Experienced manager of mixed prime/contractor teams to deliver product software. 

  • Experience with DOD customers/projects/development efforts.

PREFERRED:

  • Twenty plus (20+) years of work experience in engineering roles. 

  • Ten (10) years of experience leading a team. 

  • Knowledge of Space to Ground and Mission Architecture. 

  • Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance level.

Target salary range: $200,001 - $225,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
