SAIC is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team in San Diego, CA..

Note this is a Flexwork position however candidate will need to be on location periodically and would need to reside in the San Diego, CA area to support this function.

Job Description:

  • The TACNET Data Intelligence team is seeking a Data Scientist who will lead development of our first data science AI/ML project (BERT) including analytics and data visualization across a wide range of IT management and network health data sources.
  • Collaborate closely with our product and software development teams to enhance the existing ML model and develop new capabilities supporting IT network analytics.


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Apply knowledge in machine learning, statistics, software development, and data science to solve challenges on IT management and complex network health datasets.
  • Collaboration with internal and external parties to use AI/ML to solve NLP tasks primarily for internal and external customer projects.
  • Performing data preparation and analysis across various Navy reporting systems as well as management of complex data sources.
  • Defining manual annotation processes for text processing system validation.
  • Identify and present predictive drivers/leading indicators, trends, outliers, and patterns that uncover new insights to help guide enterprise-wide business insights.
  • Proactively proposes enhancements and has ability to design new and exciting features while retaining quality.
  • Engage with business users and stakeholders to understand both user requirements and larger strategic goals.
  • Perform work independently onsite and remotely as tasking requires.






Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in building models with Python and state-of-the-art machine learning libraries (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow, MxNet), and can leverage Hadoop, HBase, Spark, etc.
  • Be comfortable performing data acquisition, data cleansing and other data preparation tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills in order to extract meaning from complex data relationships and articulate to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Be comfortable performing data acquisition, data cleansing and other data preparation tasks.
  • Experience in Microsoft stack - .NET 4.0/C#, JavaScript, MSSQL/SQL Server.
  • Experience working with UI design team to build and implement new designs.
  • Experience in programming with Python and report visualization frameworks such as Plotly.
  • Comfortable with engaging with site customers under minimal supervision.
  • Creative problem solving skills and ability to work within areas that have no set guidance or processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have familiarity with visualization tools such as Tableau.





  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field with 2 or more years related experience.
  • four (4) years of experience accepted in lieu of degree

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience or willingness to learn BERT language model.
  • Experience or willingness to learn data visualization tools such as Kabana and the related ELK stack (Elastic Search).
  • Experience in programming with VB Script/Excel VBA.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, AS2, SMTP, SSL, SSH, HTTPS, OpenSSL, LDAP, SFTP, DNS protocols.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies and methods.

Target salary range: $75,001 - $100,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
