SAIC in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is seeking a senior-level Systems Engineer to provide support to the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) in the area of Cybersecurity architecture.

 

The cybersecurity systems engineer will be part of the team that supports ARMD cybersecurity research efforts and applications. Generally, these efforts include making sure that systems requirements fulfill NASA, federal, and external partner expectations; facilitating communication about requirements and capabilities to all stakeholders; assisting projects with cybersecurity integration and mitigation; verifying project level cybersecurity requirements; and identifying and collaborating on aeronautic cybersecurity research.

 

Specifically, the candidate will provide technical support in a variety of areas that support cybersecurity development. The skill sets needed will include a combination of Systems Engineering with an emphasis in cybersecurity and how it can be applied during development of a System Architecture. 

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Independent worker that can also effectively collaborate within a broader team that is composed from NASA, GEARS colleagues, and other contractors
  • Familiarity with NASA, DoD or INCOSE Systems Engineering processes and practices
  • Experience applying cyber security and privacy principles to complex distributed systems
  • Experience or working knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework (NIST 800-53), Systems-Theoretic Accident Model and Processes (STAMP) and/or MIT’s STPA methodology

 

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with telecommunications
  • Familiarity with national airspace operations
  • Experience or working knowledge of systems security and safety engineering principles and practice in NIST 800-160
  • Configuring and utilizing software-based computer protection tools
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE)

 

Education/Experience:

 

STEM Degree from an accredited university prefered.

  • Bachelor's degree 5 years of experience or
  • Master’s degree and 3 years of experience or
  • Ph.D. and 0 years of experience

 

*Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

**Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance for the position.

 

Work Location Clarification:

 

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the current primary location of work is via telework from each staff member's home. In select cases, where an approved Return to On-site Work (RTOW) request has been approved, some or all of the work may be performed on-site at NASA GRC. The work location for this effort will be periodically re-evaluated based on guidance from GRC with regards to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. Teleworking is a temporary measure. On-site work is expected post-pandemic.
