Job Description


SAIC is seeking an Algorithm Manager on the NASA OMES II contract in support of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.

The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation program that acquires and distributes global environmental data primarily from multiple polar-orbiting satellites.  The program plays a critical role to NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans and coasts, and the space environment, which support the Nation’s economy and protect lives and property. 

This position is located on the Data Products and Management Services (DPMS) team, that develops and maintains the Government Resource for Algorithm Verification, Independent Testing, and Evaluation (GRAVITE) system.

The candidate will provide support including but not limited to:

  • Coordinate and track algorithm updates for JPSS program instruments.
  • Write algorithm discrepancy reports and configuration change requests and attend their perspective meetings.
  • Attend JPSS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (JSTAR) science team meetings.
  • Communicate program and requirements with JSTAR science teams.
  • Deconflict JSTAR and DPMS schedules.
  • Communicate JSTAR senor data record (SDR) updates with DPMS.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering discipline.
  • At least 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience interfacing with satellite imaging science teams.
  • Communication skills to discuss needs and concerns across multiple agencies and organizations.

Desired Experience

  • Knowledge of ground system mission operations.
  • Basic familiarity with instrument design and operations.
  • Experience with science data processing.
  • Experience on major Earth-observing programs (EOS/GOES/POES/JPSS/Landsat etc.).
