SAIC is seeking an AEGIS Navigation Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Washington, D.C.
Job Duties:
- Help manage the development and maintenance of all AEGIS Weapon System Baselines, specifically AWS interfaces with Navigation Systems and the Common Engagement Capability (CEC).
- Provide direct support to the respective AEGIS Assistant Program Manager (APM) in the PEO IWS 1.0 Systems Engineering branch.
- Expected to work independently and to become the team’s sole expert in this area.
- Expected to work as the de facto manager of all AEGIS Navigation and CEC related development and maintenance efforts, working with a broad team of government and industrial organizations.
- Day to day work involves making PowerPoint presentations, leading informal teams to solve technical problems, organizing meetings, writing papers, reviewing Interface Design Specifications and other tasks.
- Organizing program reviews and lead program management team meetings. Coordinate scheduling, VTC, briefs, agendas, minutes, office supplies and all materials and services needed to conduct an effective meeting.
- Posting programmatic artifacts on SharePoint.
- Working with other PEO IWS 1.0 program branches, specifically Ship Integration and Test, AEGIS Development, Computing Infrastructure, Test and Evaluation, and Systems Engineering.
- Reviewing Computer Program Correction Reports (CPCR), determine priorities and implement BL solutions. Work with sailors, fleet representatives, developers and prime vendors (e.g., LMCO).
- Working with cyber experts to help develop AEGIS BL cybersecurity controls.
- Supporting sea-based testing on AEGIS cruisers and destroyers.
- Facilitate meetings and conferences with senior Navy leadership, field activities, vendors and support organizations. Represent the customer at technical and acquisition forums while taking meticulous notes and action item lists.
- Coordinate with other PAPM branches related to AEGIS development within PEO IWS 1.0 (e.g., computer infrastructure) to facilitate all aspects of the Systems Engineering process.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Must effectively communicate with high-level Military, Government, and Contractor personnel.
- Ability to run a productive meeting and to help guide a diverse integrated team of various stakeholders (contractors, developers, testers, government sponsors, technical warrant holders) toward a path of success.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years or more of related experience with the AEGIS Weapon System or similar Integrated Combat System in the supporting program office, prime vendor or as an operator or maintainer.
Required Qualifications:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written); applicable to high-level Military, Government, and Contractors. Excellent MS Word and PowerPoint skills. Solid staff officer capabilities, attention to detail, ability to work in a demanding environment to produce quality results.
- Applicant needs to be familiar with Interface Design Specifications, which describe signals and information exchange between combat system elements, and capable of reviewing and providing technical comments, corrections and ask questions.
- Applicant will need to be familiar or become familiar with the AEGIS LAN Interconnect System and working with US Navy navigation system participating managers to facilitate interfacing new navigations devices such as the new AN/WSN-12 inertial navigation system, and GPS-based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS).
- The applicant will need to expand their area of expertise to include other C4I related devices such as cooperative engagement capability (CEC) or other systems as required.
- Should have a working understanding of Navigation Sensor System Interface (NAVSSI) and a high-level idea of the differences between NAVSSI and GPNTS, the legacy NAV system on all AEGIS ships.
Required Security Clearance:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have Qualifications:
- Knowledge of new navigations enhancements such as jam resistant GPS, celestial navigation and navigation message types.
- AEGIS Combat Systems engineering or maintenance experience, especially related to the AEGIS computing infrastructure or the AEGIS Computer program.
- Civilian, contractor or military US Navy experience at sea or in a position directly supporting the fleet or the development of the fleet.
- Knowledge of broad principles of Systems Engineering and knowledge in support of System operations and -Ship/System capabilities.
- Fleet operational Combat Systems experience, preferably along the lines of a Tactical Action Officer, Combat -Systems Officer, Systems Test Officer, or Combat Systems Maintenance Manager.
- Any and all IT knowledge to support development of this IT centric combat system.
- DAWIA qualifications at any level or area.
- Civilian, contractor or military US Navy experience at sea or in a position directly supporting the fleet or the development of the fleet; providing for relative operational experience.
- Acquisition Program office experience, preferably within PEO IWS, PEO SHIPS or PEO C4I. Experience within NAVSEA would be preferable to other Systems Commands (SYSCOMS).
- Warfare Center experience (e.g., NSWC Dahlgren Division, NSWC Port Hueneme Division).
