SAIC has a potential opportunity for a ­­­­­­­­­­Mechanical Engineer to support the U.S. Army Military Ground Vehicle Systems.  The work will be located in Warren, MI.

This position is contingent upon contract award with an anticipated start date November 2022.

This position is for a mechanical engineer to support the design and integration of mechanical components and subsystems on various military platforms. The areas of focus will include hydraulics, pneumatics, automatic fire suppression systems and fuel systems, steering, braking, shock/vibration isolation, stowage and battery enclosures.

Job Responsibilites include: 

• Design subsystems and components to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental, ballistic and mine blast requirements.
• Conduct design, integration and analysis of mechanical components, mechanisms and shock attenuation systems for mounting devices.
• Apply mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for mechanical components and complex welded brackets, mounting provisions.
• Support various projects by doing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks and generating source data for engineering changes.
• Write material requests and shop work requests, track delivery and stock of parts, participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
• Provide support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.
• Present design concepts, program status and issues/challenges to functional and program management in a clear, concise manner and in the context of risk management.
• Conduct failure analysis and corrective action. 
   

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.  A Master's degree in any of the preceding disciplines may be substituted for one year of general experience.

Required Skills:

• A minimum total of 5 years' experience in development or integration of mounting structures and electronics enclosures for electrical/electronic systems including:
• A minimum of three years' experience in analysis, development or integration of ground vehicle mounting structures and electronics enclosures for electrical/electronic systems.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills are needed to handle multiple task/projects and to work independently.
• Effective written and oral communication skills are also required to work well with all levels of staff and managers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Can start work with Interim Secret Clearance
• Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance
