Description

SAIC is looking a Maritime Engineering Technician; duties to include rigging deck equipment & retrieval of scientific equipment. This position will support at sea testing of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), including mobilization, demobilization, boat operations, boat maintenance, logistics, test planning, and fabrication of test fixtures and components. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

Job Duties Include:

  • Coordinating pre-deployment test briefs.
  • Conducting equipment and vessel check during and after test evolutions.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of boat failures.
  • Identifying and facilitating vendors to provide vessel maintenance.
  • Fabrication of test fixtures and deployment mechanisms.
  • Performing routine maintenance checks on project support vessels and equipment.
  • Deployment of UUVs and other project equipment and vehicles.
  • Small boat maintenance experience (20’ to 40’ in length).
  • Outboard motor experience.
  • Marine diesel experience.

Qualifications

Candidate Requirements:

  • High school degree and 2 years of experience as an Engineering technician with a technical background and general understanding of mechanical/electrical components. Preference will be given if experience is from small Rigged Hull Inflatable boats (20’ to 40’ in length).

Clearance requirement:

  • Active Secret clearance 

Desired Skills:

  • Boat operator or coxswain
  • 5 years of professional experience
  • Unmanned Maritime Vehicle Experience
  • Forklift Qualification
  • Previous military experience 
  • Ability to operate a boat is a plus
  • At least two years of experience as a Deck Hand in rigging and deck equipment for deployment and retrieval of scientific equipment in a maritime environment
  • Anything related to deployment/recovery and maintenance of unmanned maritime vehicles is a huge plus
