Job Description


JOB DESCRIPTION: SAIC in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is seeking a mid-level Cybersecurity Systems Engineer to provide support to the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) in the area of Cybersecurity architecture.


The cybersecurity systems engineer will be part of the team that supports ARMD research efforts and applications. This effort includes making sure that systems requirements fulfill NASA, federal, and external partner expectations; facilitating communication about requirements and capabilities to all stakeholders; assisting projects with cybersecurity integration and mitigation; verifying project level cybersecurity requirements; and identifying and collaborating on aeronautic cybersecurity research.


Specifically, the candidate will provide technical support in a variety of areas that support cybersecurity development and recommend security enhancements as needed. The skill set needed includes a combination of Systems Engineering and Cybersecurity disciplines. 



  • Understanding of Systems Security Engineering (SSE) and processes
  • Experience performing threat analysis and mitigation strategies
  • Experience or working knowledge of designing architectures and frameworks using TOGAF or DODAF
  • Experience or working knowledge of systems security and safety engineering principles and practice in NIST 800-160
  • Experience or working knowledge identifying and assessing risks, threats and vulnerabilities affecting new or existing systems
  • Experience or knowledge in the implementation and monitoring of project security requirements
  • Experience applying security and privacy principles



  • Experience developing and reviewing information security plans and policies
  • Configuring and utilizing software-based computer protection tools
  • Experience or working knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework (NIST 800-53)
  • Experience or working knowledge of Systems-Theoretic Accident Model and Processes (STAMP)
  • Familiarity with telecommunications
  • Familiarity with aeronautics
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) as applied to:
    • Modeling and designing multilevel security cross-domain applications
    • Defining and building use cases
    • Interpreting operational requirements into protection needs

* Must be a US Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

** Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance for the position.


Work Location Clarification:

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the current primary location of work is via telework from each staff member's home.  In select cases, some or all of the work may be performed on-site at NASA GRC. The work location for this effort will be periodically re-evaluated based on guidance from GRC with regards to the status of the COVID-19 pandemic. Teleworking is a temporary measure. On-site work is expected post-pandemic.



STEM Degree from an accredited university
Bachelor's degree 5-10 years of experience or
Master’s degree and 3-6 years of experience or
Ph.D. and 0-3 years of experience
