SAIC is seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Controls subject matter expert (SME) and task lead to support the Air Force’s guided weapons research, development, modeling, analyses, and simulation of weapon system algorithms and capabilities.  This will include software-in-the-loop (SWIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL), as well as field testing. Our customer is the US Air Force Armament Directorate Office located at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.  A successful candidate will be assigned to work as a Manager/Task Lead as well as a GNC SME managing a team of scientist and engineers working with civil service government engineers developing, modeling, and analyzing, within a laboratory testing environment, algorithms, advanced components, and systems.

The team is looking for a highly motivated Guidance, Navigation & Control (GN&C) SME with experience in the modeling and simulation of complex weapon or aerospace systems. Position requires the ability to work with and lead a small team of Guidance, Navigation, and Controls engineers as well as engineers specializing in other areas of missile systems, such as sensors, seekers, propulsion and warheads.  This includes the development of models and analyses to assist in the development of a functional simulation of both tactical and strategic guidance systems and weapon systems in general. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • The candidate shall assist with the development of integrated guided munitions guidance, navigation, and control algorithms.
  • Evaluate concepts’ or concept subsystems’ performance and stability. Help establish concept performance limitations.
  • Assist in modeling and simulation development of guided weapons systems and concepts.
  • Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in the following area:
    • Weapon system design and analyses
    • Weapon System/Subsystem requirements development
    • Modeling and Simulation Development (both SWIL and HWIL)
    • Model development, Model Parameter ID, Model V&V
    • Algorithm Design, Guidance Law Design and development, Autopilot Design and development
    • Flight test support (pre/post analyses)
  • Document studies and analysis findings via briefings, scientific papers and technical reports.
  • Software implementation of complex guidance, navigation, and controls algorithms.
  • Work with and lead a small team of scientists and engineers to model, simulate and study the performance of potential Air Force guided weapon systems, concepts and advanced weapon subsystem technologies.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (M.S.) in engineering, scientific, or related field with 20+ years of related experience (Post Grad degree desired)
  • 20+ years' experience in guidance, navigation, and controls algorithm development and analyses of complex controls systems, specific weapons related experience preferred, other aerospace experience will be considered
  • Virtual and Constructive simulation development and the use of these simulations for guided weapon system and concept flight performance predictions
  • Scientific programming experience required. Programming experience with C. C++, Matlab and/or Simulink code development
  • Understanding of analyses and digital signal processing techniques
  • Secret Security Clearance required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD top secret  TS/ SCI security clearance
