SAIC has an immediate need for a Sr. Network Engineer to support the NASA Integrated Communications Services (NICS) contract at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View California.  The NICS contract provides high quality integrated communications services for secure voice, video and data solutions and services to NASA customers worldwide. The selected engineer will be part of a team of 6 Engineers.  U.S. Citizenship is required.  
Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage assigned trouble tickets and provide timely resolution to problems in accordance with service level agreements (SLA).
  • Interface directly with the end users, NASA management and enterprise engineering teams on a daily basis to support various trouble tickets, assigned incidents and perform scheduled upgrades and maintenance.
  • Participate in and be added to the alternating after-hours on-call support schedule for resolution of system problems, power outages, or site emergency situations and maintain system records, logs, and configuration documentation;
  • Support the Enterprise LAN network system operations including on-site hosted infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Field.  Experience will be acceptable in lieu of education
  • Active Public Trust Clearance with the ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Experience in IT or Network Service Delivery and support concepts
  • Knowledge in Cisco routing and switching products and protocols (OSPF, BGP, AS, etc.)
  • Familiar with general LAN technologies
  • Understand wireless system operations and management (Controller and Access Points made by Cisco or Aruba
  • Secure and inventory telecom equipment, including telephony and networking equipment
  • Resolve break/fixes and provide move/add/change/deactivation requests for all telecommunications systems 
  • Strong understanding and experience with VPN, software and operating systems
 
Desired Skills:
  • Appropriate response to trouble calls related to network operations and service delivery
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Ability to differentiate and isolate hardware and software issues.
  • Manage controller-based wireless network and perform site surveys using tools like spectrum analyzer
  • Basic system administration for Windows, Linux, etc.
  • Scripting with a focus on task automation (Perl, etc.)
  • Meeting with customers to gather specialized networking requirements, especially related to wireless and firewalls
  • Participation in peer reviews of implementation plans and architecture
  • Training and mentoring of technical staff
  • Knowledge in back-up power systems like uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) is a plus.
