SAIC anticipates a requirement for a Technical Writer position in support the Naval Information Warfare Center, Pacific (NIWC PAC), Fleet Installation Office (FIO). The position will provide support to generate, edit, proof, and distribute program documentation consistent in format, organization, and content, and comply with AIPH/SIPH and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to meet Program requirements and process improvement initiatives. Documentation may include (not limited to) design documentation, white papers, engineering analysis, technical research papers, performance charts, illustrations, and figures.

This position is contingent on award end of 2021 with an anticipated start date in April 2022 and will be located in San Diego, CA.

The Technical Writer develops, writes, and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment, receives assignment from supervisor, observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail. This writer interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods, and reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment. The Technical Writer studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail, organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; and reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. This worker may perform the following tasks: maintain records and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material; assist in laying out material for publication, arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material, edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or program personnel.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Highschool or equivalent with the above experiences

12 months or greater experience in the following areas:

  • US Navy C4I systems architecture, installation, integration, and testing.
  • Fleet Modernization process stakeholders and organizational relationships.
  • Proficient use of MS Office and other software such as Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro, CAD programs.
  • Generating, editing, proofing, and distributing program documentation to include program plans, status reports, and technical documentation.
  • Reviewing and developing, technical correspondence, reports, documents, drawings, and/or analyses.
  • Supporting peer review meetings, collect input from participants, and incorporate the changes to program documents such as design documentation, white papers, engineering analysis, technical research papers, and performance charts, as required.
  • Creating new or modify existing documents, processes, workflows, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to meet Program requirements and process improvement initiatives
  • Exercising critical thinking and independent judgment dealing with urgency factors, changing priorities, and constraints in successful project execution. 

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:

  • Must have an active Secret security clearance
