Job Description

Description

SAIC is seeking a Materials Engineer in the Huntsville, AL area to integrate, operate and maintain a materials analysis lab at a customer location on Redstone Arsenal.  The materials analysis lab provides support to the analysis of missile system components from MANPADS, SRBMs, SAMs, TELs, decoys and camouflage, and DEW electronics. The survivability of foreign weapon systems requires analysis of composition, microstructure, mechanical properties, and strength of materials to determine vulnerabilities that the warfighter can exploit to disable or destroy the system. The materials lab offers quick onsite material analysis to support proliferation interdiction, determination of manufacturing processes of missile components, engineering simulation inputs for flyout and RF/IR signature analysis, and forensic analysis.

This position will be responsible for the following:

  • Use industry-leading analysis techniques to analyze and quickly identify new materials in foreign missile threat systems.
  • Apply Scientific and technical principles to conduct composition and microstructural analyses on materials such as metals, polymers (paints, adhesives, resins, and composites), propellant and explosive residues, weld joints, graphite, and electrical components.
  • Prepare samples for analysis (e.g., cutting, mounting, and polishing) using standard industry lab techniques to ensure accurate results.
  • Select, procure, and integrate instrumentation to support the increased test analysis capabilities of threat equipment in response to broad Government requirements.

This is a great opportunity to upgrade your active Secret clearance to a TS/SCI with CI poly!

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Ensure selected lab test instruments and related equipment are operational and meet the material analysis requirements of the customer.
  • Set up, verify proper operation of, calibrate, and document material-test setup procedures for specialized Materials Lab equipment.
  • Perform calibration procedures on test equipment to ensure readiness before sample testing.
  • Maintain configuration control of lab inventory scheduling for annual maintenance and calibrations of select specialized test equipment from the manufacturers’ service representatives.
  • Track maintenance records and calibration results to ensure accountability and mission readiness with no delay in responding to Government requests.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance and the ability to get a TS/SCI with CI POly
  • BS in Materials and Science or Mechanical Engineering with at least 8 years of experience in a material science related field.
  • Experience in using the following equipment: EDAX Wavelength Dispersive and Photon Machines, electron laser-induced breakdown spectrometers, Perkin Elmer Fourier Transform IR microscope, Zeiss Motorized stereomicroscope, low-level Olympus X-ray Fluorescence handheld analyzer, hardness testers, tensile tester, sample preparation equipment, and a Raman spectrometer.

Contingencies: Must have the ability to obtain a TS/SCI with a CI poly within 2 years of hire date.
