SAIC in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is seeking an early to mid-career Systems Engineer to provide support to the Communications Services Project (CSP). The position is located in Cleveland, OH.
CSP has been formulated to transition legacy government space communications services to commercially available communication and navigation services for near Earth missions. The goals of CSP are to 1) Acquire end-to-end commercial satellite communications (SATCOM) services that meet NASA user mission needs in near Earth; 2) Transition commercial SATCOM services to NASA missions; and 3) Manage the implementation and operations of the NASA commercial SATCOM services enterprise.
The CSP intends to minimize the need for NASA unique capabilities for spacecraft communications in favor of being one of many users of commercial SATCOM capabilities and subsequent services. The CSP will work with the commercial market to explore mutually beneficial opportunities to bolster American industry, reduce cost to NASA, and maximize interoperability between government and commercial service providers. CSP is currently establishing multiple partnerships between NASA and commercial SATCOM companies to develop flight demonstrations to determine the feasibility of commercial SATCOM capabilities.
The successful candidate will support the Lead Systems Engineer in the following activities of system engineering and integration (SE&I): 1) Develop requirements documentation, 2) Develop Concept of Operations (ConOps), 3) Plan and support project life-cycle reviews, 4) Participate in and assess trade studies, 5) Provide systems insight on the development of communication systems operations, 6) Assess contractor milestone deliverables, and 7) Support project meetings and review boards.
