Description

As a satellite Assembly, Integration, & Test (AI&T) Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to design and develop test systems for our space vehicle (SV) and payload hardware on the SV.  You will be working on spacecraft systems, communications (RF & optical) payloads, ground systems, and interconnectivity between these elements. You will be responsible for AI&T including HITL/SITL simulation test planning activities and ensuring that the activities are compatible with the flatsat and align well with plans for integration at the AI&T facilities. You will be expected to create test solutions from the ground up. This role will require you to get your hands dirty, to make important decisions, and work to provide data-driven rationale.
  • Develop and execute various tests pertaining to space vehicles to meet customer requirements:
    • Assist in the performance of various satellite AI&T and testing efforts
    • Interact with the flatsats and other AI&T infrastructure to test functionality and performance
    • Develop test sequences that demonstrate compliance with various interface specifications at both the subsystem and systems level
    • Collaborate with the customer and vendors in customer test labs to perform ground and space verification and interoperability tests of SV system including optical subsystem and RF payloads
    • As part of V & V and test activities, assist in the design, development, and installation of test equipment and interface hardware in the HITL/SITL labs
  • Participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution involving the full spectrum of integration and test activities.
  • Design test solutions for flight hardware consisting of both vendor-developed hardware as well as commercial off the shelf components.
Perform root-cause analyses of test anomalies and failures during various states of testing and develop and implement mitigations

Qualifications

  • Understanding of optical and RF test equipment including, Ka, Link-16, BMC3, and GPS.
  • Understanding and experience in environmental testing such as vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, and TVAC and EMI/EMC testing.
  • Experience with the development cycle of new product development or factory production
  • Experience with HASS/HALT.
  • Object oriented software experience, python and C++ preferred
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Ability to manage and maintain project schedules
  • Ability to design custom mechanical parts needed for test systems designs (such as fixtures and enclosures)
  • Demonstrated skills in test engineering.
  • Experience with test equipment and measurement techniques such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, etc. to verify and validate electronic performance
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
  • Knowledge with a range of digital and analog interfaces including GPIB, USB, VISA, TCP/IP, VLAN, CAN bus, SPI, I2C, analog-to-digital conversion
  • Ability to understand electronics designs to analyze and improve test coverage
  • Experience analyzing circuits and PCBA/Harness level schematics to develop functional test plans
  • Solid understanding of 100Mb/s and 1Gb/s Ethernet at both physical and application layers
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in satellite AI&T and/or related areas, with a Bachelor's degree  or 1 year of similar experience with a Master’s degree.
  • Experience working with satellite systems, through the system engineering “V”, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs through detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, launch, and early orbit operations.
  • 3+ years of experience with hardware development or test software development
2+ years of programming experience using Python, LabVIEW, SQL, MATLAB, or Embedded C/C++

Target salary range: $75,001 - $100,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
