Job Description

Description

SAIC's National Security and Space Sector (NSSS)  is seeking a Space Communications Systems Engineer to join our team. SAIC provides specialized analysis, engineering, design, and operations support to a variety of USG Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. We support development of next generation and generation after next national security systems based on land, at sea, in air, and in space.

The Space Communications Systems Engineer supports the USG System Program Office (SPO) in a technical capacity for planning, execution, monitoring, and oversight of communications systems development and acquisitions that advance the customer space resiliency posture. The Space Communications Systems Engineer is an individual contributor and member of a team of high-performing Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) that work to support the Government through lifecycle systems engineering and management processes to deliver desired capabilities and meet overall program objectives. Specifically, the Space Communications Engineer will serve as onsite Systems Engineering and Technical Advisor (SETA) with responsibilities that may include but not limited to the following:

  • Oversee design and development of communications systems and components for space to ground and space to space communication links, both RF and Optical.
  • Apply complex space and ground communications specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures for communications systems and components.
  • Assist the Government in developing concept of operations (CONOPS) and approaches to employment of communications systems.
  • Ensure research and development (R&D) efforts planned and conducted using sound engineering practices including management of technical risks.
  • Provide technical support to USG customer activities and programmatic processes.
  • Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status. Brief USG and industry, as required.
  • Understand communications link budget models to inform Government systems engineering trades.
  • Support Contract Officer Technical Representatives (COTRs) and Developers by coordinating with other technical domain SMEs and program stakeholders to understand systems, designs, and interfaces necessary to satisfy mission requirements.
  • Provide oversight of acquisitions, with specific focus on communications systems, elements, functionality, interfaces, manufacture, build, test, and operations to ensure end-to-end system closure and satisfaction of mission need.
  • Review Contract Data Requirements List (CORL) deliverables to ensure content, technical accuracy, and sufficiency of design details to meet program requirements and objectives.
  • Manage technical interchange meetings between developers and COTR.

Qualifications
