Job Description


JOB DESCRIPTION: The CNOC LAN Engineer installs, tests, troubleshoots, programs, maintains, and repairs digital networking equipment. In today's enviorment this includes, but is not limited to Cisco/Juniper switches, telephones, wireless access points and virtual servers. This worker analyzes system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or outside factors. Employees in this position maintain manual and digital records of all activities. Using state of the art monitoring and automation systems the employee will track traffic analysis, change records, client service records, and spare parts inventories.

SCOPE: Employee will use various monitoring tools to proactivly identify Local Area Network problems and take corrective action. Employee will use automation tools to maintain the network infastructure, upgrade and install the latest software and hardware platforms. Working knowledge of Cisco CLI and GUI interfaces required. Must have the ability to interpet historic logs and debug files while troubleshooting complex network problems. 

LIASON: Employee will act as a liason between the centralized network operations center and remote engineers, vendors, data technicians and end-users.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT: No management responsibilities. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Employee should have working knowledge of Local Area Networks, VLANs, switching/routing protocols, fiber optic and Ethernet connectivity. CCNA level competence is required. Employee must have the ability to learn how the network interacts with other custom management, security, automation and authenication systems. 


TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School education or GED (BS degree in engineering prefered). Cisco CCNA or equilivant experiance required. (Cisco CCNP prefered). Comp Tia Network+ and Security+ is an advantage

Current clearance or ability to obtain Secret clearance required. (TS clearance prefered).
