The National Security & Space Sector’s (NSSS) Air Force, OSD, and COCOM (AFDoDAC) Business Unit has an open position for a Vice President, Business Development. This position is a direct report to the NSSS Senior VP for Business Development and dotted line to the AFDoDAC Business Unit Senior VP. The position directs strategy, BD, Capture and investment planning activities for all SAIC support to the Air Force, OSD, 4th Estate agencies, Joint Staff, and Combatant Commands. This BU’s annual revenue is $800M+ with a strong growth record. The executive in this position drives high win rates and accelerates growth, strengthens SAIC’s connections to customers and industry competitors, positions SAIC strategically in the marketplace, and guides investment in the SAIC Innovation Factory organization that develops new capabilities.
As summarized above, this executive will focus on developing and implementing strategies to position SAIC’s AFDoDAC accounts for sustained growth and profitability. There is specific need for this executive to be able to lead the BD team in winning AFDoDAC business in SAIC core competency areas of Digital Transformation, Digital Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning. The AFDODAC BU BD VP collaborates with the SAIC Strategic Planning organization on market assessment activities by integrating information gleaned from customers, industry experts, competitors, and other business leaders. This closed loop ensures current and relevant understanding of the market situation.
The BD VP applies market analysis and related information to develop AFDODAC BU strategic BD plans and inform decision-making for investment priorities. The executive collaborates with all of the sector BU P&L leads to influence corporate business strategy for entry and growth in new market areas through development of new business models, internal technology investment, acquisitions, mergers, joint venture agreements and development of new distribution channels. The executive works with SAIC Corporate Development in identifying and analyzing M&A candidates.
The BD VP leads a team of approximately 20 business development and capture professionals. The BD VP works with all individuals on the BD team to develop sound win strategies, ensure high quality captures, prepare high scoring proposals, and deliver successful business outcomes. The BD VP develops training plans and mentors BD team members to increase skill level and professional knowledge. The BD VP works with the BD team to drive connections to buyers by planning and executing seminars, forums, white papers, and conference participation that strengthen SAIC’s reputation as a trusted expert and increase the number, quality, and value of new business opportunities in the pipeline.
The BD VP is a member of the NSSS BD leadership team, developing and carrying out corporate and sector BD strategy and guidance. The BD VP works very closely with the AFDODAC BU SVP and subordinate Directorate VPs, as their principal advisor for decisions related to growth.
Customer Engagement and Market Positioning
This VP has a very high tempo of engagement with senior customers in support of both long term and close-in business positioning. The goal of engagement will be to sustain situational awareness of the marketplace and to develop relationships with key customers and competitors, to facilitate BD strategy and decision-making. These successful engagements will foster bookings growth and enable program and BD teams to shape opportunities across the business unit.
The VP will develop the very strong internal relationships, both formal and informal, needed for success in SAIC’s matrix organization. In particular, the executive partners with peers to ensure that investments (e.g., IRAD, BD spend) align to growth strategies and market opportunities. The executive fosters a collaborative work environment that tightly links BD, technology teams and corporate resources. This collaboration fosters an aggressive growth culture with broad awareness of business opportunities and potential solutions.
