SAIC is looking for a Lab Engineer to support a contract in Oxnard, CA.

Selected candidate would assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronic and mechanical equipment for a US Navy Electronic Warfare program at our customer’s site. Candidate must be process oriented, familiar with RF equipment and test methods, follow test procedures, work with ATE and manual test equipment, and be able to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings. 

Acts as the on-site company-engineering representative with overarching responsibility for becoming the SAIC expert for assembly, test and training of a state-of-the-art Electronic Warfare (EW) pod. 

Will be working at the customer site directly with Government and other contractor technicians and engineers on a daily basis.

This liaison for EW pod assembly and test will work directly with our Oxnard Chief Engineer, as well as our Indianapolis production facility engineers and technicians, to refine procedures and share lab findings.

Identifies areas requiring product improvement and recommends upgrades of flight and test equipment hardware and software. Familiar with engineering change orders.

Provides feedback and customer support regarding product performance problems and suggested solutions which may require product exchanges or more complex problem solving.

Prepares and conducts special reports and presentations pertinent to company products and services, field operations or other applications. Plans, prepares and conducts on-the-job training as required in support of the foregoing activities. This job may include any aspect of field support, and is not limited to system hardware and software.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Repairs, installs, and inspects electronics, electronic systems and RF components as directed through verbal or written directions, diagrams, drawings, or specifications.
  • Tests electronic and RF equipment/systems according to test procedures and ATE; documents test results and assists with technical reports.
  • Determines material or replacement needs and a logical method for repair; takes appropriate action to meet those needs and makes repairs.
  • Manages and installs cables and wiring, splicing as needed.
  • Assemble mechanical assemblies according to drawings and/or assemblies instructions.
  • Recommend corrections/updates to drawings and procedures.
  • Creates or adapts parts as needed to make repairs and improve the performance of various electronics.
  • Develop work instructions, procedures, and other documentation for assembly and disassembly of electronic assemblies and components.
  • Capture and archive configuration of all components during assembly process.
  • Load software into assemblies and test to ensure load was successful.
  • Interface remotely with other project technicians, engineers, and test personnel.
  • Develops and maintains records related to electronic and electrical equipment.
  • Performs safety checks to ensure design plans are feasible in various conditions.
  • Reports potentially dangerous electrical equipment to supervisor and takes steps to resolve the issue.
  • Travel as required to support setup of lab and assembly facilities, and to support test events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years related experience; years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of electronics principles and design.
  • Understanding of MIL specifications and handbooks as they apply to assembly and test of electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Process-oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to follow highly complex directions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to distinguish various colors of wires and distinguish electronic system sections and wiring.

Required Clearance:

  • Must have an active DoD Interim Secret Clearance to start with the ability to obtain and maintain full Secret clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at time.

Desired skills:

  • Experience with military aircraft maintenance is a plus.
  • IPC J-STD-001 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 or similar certification/experience desired.
