Job Description

As the Linux Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing an isolated local area network consisting of Linux and Windows clients and servers and LAN storage array; interfacing with end users to administer accounts; working with other members of the infrastructure team to ensure system availability; implementing baseline changes; performing technical evaluations, analysis, and troubleshooting for all supported servers; building servers by providing technical configuration, setup, installation services, hardware and coordination of application projects; and operating and maintaining servers

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing design and implementation of standalone networks that require the integration of diverse and complex components
  • Defining operational requirements including integration with other systems or components
  • Researching and modeling the system architecture and configuration
  • Investigating alternatives, cost analysis and estimation, and decision analysis
  • Ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate requirements into hardware and software specification
  • Make recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinate installation and provide backup recovery
  • Providing specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements, facility requirements (including floor layout, power cooling, network connectivity), data storage, backup, monitoring, operations systems, directory services, identity management, access management, and automation
  • Working on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions, which are highly innovative and ingenious
  • Exercising independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Working with software developers, machine learning engineers, and multimedia specialists to understand all the user requirements of the different expertise

Qualifications

  • Current TS/SCI & Poly
  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, Math or the Sciences, Network Engineering, Systems Software, or applicable field and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience; or if no degree, additional related work experience

  • This position requires strong technical skills in areas of Linux system administration, networking, and application deployment/maintenance
  • Experience with Linux system administration – including building/provisioning large-scale physical and/or virtual environments
  • Experience with monitoring systems
  • Experience with system automation software (Docker)
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
  • Knowledge of existing server technologies including principles and methods used in obtaining maximum utilization of server technologies
  • Knowledge of customer's policies and procedures relating to the design, upgrade, operations, and maintenance of networks
  • Knowledge of Information Security policies and procedures
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Demonstrated experience working on remote Systems via use of command line
  • Demonstrated experience configuring firewall/routing/networking
  • Hands on experience integrating Linux servers in Active Directory
  • Experience in Windows system administration
  • Exercising independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
