Job Description

SAIC is seeking a mid-level Electrical Ground Support Equipment Engineer on the OMES II contract in support of the On-Orbit Servicing Assembly and Manufacturing OSAM-1 program NASA’s Exploration and In-Space Services Projects (NExIS) division. This position is located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.

OSAM-1 is a robotic servicing mission designed to refuel a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. It contains 3 elements: the Flight Element comprised of the OSAM-1 Servicing Vehicle (RSV) and development testbeds, the Ground Element comprised of the systems required to conduct RSV operations and the supporting networks and facilities, and the Launch Element comprised of the Launch Vehicle and supporting facilities and services. NExIS is responsible for the design, engineering, development, test and operations of the OSAM-1 Mission through an integrated team at GSFC. The Servicing Payload design, development and RSV integration will be conducted at GSFC.

The engineer will support the design and integration and test of electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) as a member of the OSAM-1 Integration & Testing (I&T) team. The OSAM-1 I&T subsystem performs the integration and test of all OSAM-1 hardware including the servicing payload and spacecraft bus.

Job duties include:

  • Perform detailed design of simple electronics and cabling. The electrical assembly is associated with putting together cards and lower level panel assemblies.
  • Support the integration and troubleshooting of GSE equipment.
  • Write and perform integration procedures associated with GSE, including the certification of EGSE.
  • Be part of the electrical design team regarding GSE. This includes providing drawing checking, requirement capture, failure modes and effects analysis, and other specialized support as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field, and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong experience designing and fabricating EGSE, preferably for spaceflight applications.
  • Experience designing test equipment (racks, hardware in the loop, test fixtures, etc.) and validation of the interfaces with flight hardware.
  • Experience documenting test sets, including all block diagrams, assembly drawings and notes, harnessing schematics, and bill of materials.
  • Experience creating LabVIEW applications.
  • Proficient in generating schematics and assembly drawings.
  • 3D modeling software is a plus.
