SAIC is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse, and highly motivated individuals supporting the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). This position is located in Crane, IN.


Note: This position is 50% remote/flexwork/work from home position with up to 50% travel. Travel will be 2 weeks a month (3-4 days each trip).  Although this is a telework position, candidates need to be close enough to travel in for classified meetings in Crane, IN as needed.

Travel will be to Multiple sites (NCR, vendor sites, and Crane, IN if not already local)

Example vendor sites include Portland, OR, Dayton, OH, Albuquerque, NM, and Detroit, MI



OUSD(R&E) seeks to develop manufacturing capabilities to affordably and rapidly meet Warfighter needs. To meet these needs, the Manufacturing Science and Technology Program focuses on development of processes and enabling production capabilities to reduce cost, time, and resources required for the acquisition and sustainment of weapon systems.  These efforts focus on joint service warfighter impact through multi-service, multi-system applications to solve DoD problems and significantly enhance manufacturability and producibility. Candidate will assist the government in evaluating manufacturing technologies and processes, provide technical recommendations for process improvement, and work with various stakeholders to support transition from R&D into production.




  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline and a minimum of ten (10) years of engineering experience.
  • Expertise in manufacturing system solutions to complex and challenging DoD problems.
  • Expertise in manufacturing readiness assessments for DoD systems.
  • Experience in supporting technical, managerial, or operational fields and have expert credentials or be recognized as an authority and have the mature judgement required to advise senior government personnel.
  • Working knowledge of collaborative systems.
  • Understanding of the technical and programmatic elements of DoD acquisition lifecycle, activities, timeline, acquisitions, best practices, policies, dependencies, and interrelationships.
  • Technical knowledge of DoD systems engineering technical and technical management processes to a functional specialty in Integrated Product Team (IPT) environments.
  • Engineering domain experience and understanding of current/future DoD military systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in integrating new manufacturing technologies and approaches (e.g., artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning, cold spray, additive manufacturing, etc.)
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Must possess an interim secret clearance to begin work, must be able to obtain a Full DOD Top Secret Clearance.



  • Experience as chief engineer or lead systems engineer for a major defense acquisition program development effort is highly desired.
  • Experience interfacing with Services and warfighters to coordinate engineering and analysis needs is highly desired.
