Description

SAIC is seeking a Senior Systems Project Engineer to support the Naval Information Warfare Center for public safety interoperable communications on RF engineering assessments.  This work is located in San Diego, California and is part time based on the individual projects.  The work will vary from month to month based on individual tasks for RF assessments with work ranging from 0 to 80 hours in a given month.

 The individual contributor will function as part of a group of government and contractor personnel that analyze RF coverage, develop test plans, conduct the tests and report the data to states and territories.

 JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develop RF coverage test plans that incorporate the effects of geography, building interference and foliage. 
  • Analyzes geography to create route maps for drive tests.  Proposes routes and spot tests for drive testing based on an understanding of RF spectrum propagation.  
  • Work with states, territories and government engineers to assess the results of RF drive testing and provide them recommendations to enhance coverage. 
  • Assess RF products like radios, LTE cellular systems, and antennas to recommend candidate systems for interoperable public safety communications and produce a final report.
  • Researches, modifies, evaluates and tests a variety of electronic equipment and systems, including radio, and RF based products and other communications equipment and systems.
  • Conducts drive tests and post-test analysis using products like Keysight Handy.

Qualifications

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and 20+ years of demonstrated experience in public safety/ DOD communications systems related to radio propagation, antenna location, and producing reports.

Required skills:

  • RF communications planning.
  • Ability to assess RF communications products.
  • Technical expertise in the physics behind RF propagation and the effects of interference by items such as range, foliage, and geography.
  • Ability to lead test teams and work directly with senior state employees.

Required clearance:

  • None but must have the ability to obtain a Secret.

Desired experience:

  • Experience with DOD or public safety RF communications systems.
  • Experience in developing communications plans and reports.
