Description

SAIC is looking for an Optical Payload Subsystem Engineer to support a dynamic program in Chantilly, VA. The position requires an active TS/SCI with Polygraph.

 

As Optical Payload Subsystem Engineer, provide payload engineering and technical assistance within a Government Program Office.  Apply engineering knowledge to support the design, manufacturing, and testing of advanced optical payload components, assemblies, and subsystems.

Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in an interactive team environment with Government customer leads, payload developers, and other subject matter experts.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to support the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of advanced optical payload components, assemblies, and subsystems.
  • Assist in requirements development, and support requirements flow-down and traceability.  Assist with ensuring compliance to interfaces and standards.
  • Evaluate system, subsystem and unit level design, as necessary, to determine if the design is adequate to meet program requirements.
  • Assess subsystem technical performance.  Identify risks to program plans and schedules, and support development of corrective action plans.
  • Participate in Failure Review Boards (FRBs) to troubleshoot and resolve anomalies and test failures.
  • Confirm requirements verification by evaluating unit, subsystem, and vehicle performance and environmental test data, analysis, and inspection results.
  • Assist in preparation of RFP documentation (SOWs, CDRLs, specifications, etc.) and conduct ECP technical evaluations.
  • Travel within the U.S. approximately one to two times per month for approximately 3-4 days per trip.

 

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more experience.

Requirements:

  • BS in Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical discipline
  • Experience with spacecraft programs and satellite payload development and integration
  • Experience with early life-cycle engineering activities/milestones, payload & spacecraft integration and test, and Launch and Initialization (L&I) activities
  • Able to work effectively with a variety of engineers in different disciplines and organizations
  • Knowledge of Semiconductor fabrication and focal plane design and fabrication
  • Understanding of semi-conductor testing
  • Knowledge of CMOS and CCD sensors designs, arrays and operation
  • Knowledge of electro-optic detectors and sensor performance specifications
  • Experience in environmental testing of space hardware
