Job Description


The National Center for Critical Information Processing and Storage (NCCIPS) has an opening for a Senior Network Engineer with VoIP experience.  The Network Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the internal network infrastructure and network security for the internal facility isolated networks supporting core Data Center functions across the campus.  The Network Engineer will be responsible for managing the day to day functions of the VoIP Network supporting all customers and users within the Data Center. Position is an ON-SITE Position with a requirement to be ON-SITE at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.  Full-time Remote work is not authorized for this position.


The Senior Network Engineer is to perform hands-on design and implementation for networking and is anticipated to be an "Everything over IP" subject matter expert. Responsibilities for this role include implementing and maintaining network infrastructures, installing and configuring network and digital phone (including VoIP) equipment, perform network implementation, operational maintenance, testing, and work with system administrators to provide routine maintenance on all systems.


Job Duties:

  • Functions as hands-on technical expert during day to day networking operations and responsible for network change request for both networking and communications infrastructure (phone, fax, VoIP, cabling, switches, etc.)
  • Meet with NASA Security team and management, as required, to reviews security posture of the internal network to include potential vulnerabilities or other risks within the network.
  • Develops documentation to support ongoing network security systems operations, maintenance and specific problem resolution.
  • Provide risk analysis for network vulnerabilities, incidents and change requests
  • Develops and maintains technology to automate network monitoring
  • Create, maintain, and document network security baselines
  • Responsible for daily moves, adds, and changes associated with the user population on the VoIP system.
  • Responsible for maintaining a detailed log of assigned VoIP Phones and associated directory numbers along with providing a monthly report of customer assignment to be used for billing purposes.
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate network diagrams and network design drawings using Microsoft Visio.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s and five (5) years or more of experience. 
  • Related technical discipline, or equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of five years of successful networking experience to include Cisco IOS and Cisco Catalyst Networking Equipment.
  • Minimum of two years of successful VoIP experience to include Cisco Unified Communications Manager.


Skill Requirements:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent facilitation skills, and the ability to lead brainstorming sessions
  • Candidate must also be able to communicate the progress of projects to Senior Management and be able to make presentations to large audiences. 
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills as well as basic mathematical skills.
  • The candidate must be an independent worker who demonstrates expert knowledge of the application of information technology to the business processes of the company.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CCNA or equivalent networking/VoIP certification is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience working with Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor or other Solarwinds Modules is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience working with Windows Systems is desirable but not required.



  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
