Job Description


SAIC is seeking a Ground System Engineer on the NASA OMES II contract in support of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The position is located in Lanham, MD. 

This job is temporarily remote due to COVID-19.

The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation program that acquires and distributes global environmental data primarily from multiple polar-orbiting satellites.  The program plays a critical role to NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans and coasts, and the space environment, which support the Nation’s economy and protect lives and property.

This is a senior system engineering position with an emphasis on ground system engineering and test services during maintenance and sustainment of the JPSS Government Resource for Algorithm Verification, Independent Test, and Evaluation (GRAVITE) system. 


  • Develop and decompose requirements
  • Oversee test and integration efforts of sustainment releases
  • Track discrepancies providing updates and closure statements during testing
  • Document development and updates as applicable to the GRAVITE system
  • Provide oversight into interface testing and update interface control documents (ICD) as needed
  • Participate in Verification and validation activities including:
    • Writing Test Procedures
    • Mapping Requirements to procedures 
    • Monitoring tests for verification of requirements
  • Participate in regression testing following security patching
  • Lead team’s efforts on the Project Control Boards (i.e. Configuration Control, Schedule Control)



Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience.


The candidate shall have a strong technical base in the following areas:

  • Strong System Engineering skills
    • Requirements development
    • Design
    • Document Development
    • Integration and Testing
  • Exceptional communications skills are a must
  • Ground system development and operations engineering
  • Direct, relevant experience and familiarization with NASA/NOAA system architecture and organizational structures
  • Strong ability to lead and interact with distributed team members and different corporate cultures
