SAIC is seeking Acoustic Sonar Dome Principal Electrical Engineers to support the US Navy on the CR-Platform Launch Systems Polymer Engineering Underwater Sensor Branch (GXPS) in Bedford, IN. These positions support the In-Service Engineering Agent on the Sonar Dome Team for the U.S. Navy.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

SME scientist/engineer requires a background in design, development, testing, failure analysis, and manufacturing of underwater acoustic sonar domes for military use. Candidate shall demonstrate a high-level of underwater acoustic sonar dome engineering experience and knowledge. Experience includes radiographic analysis of fielded sonar domes, critical evaluation of both in-service and manufacturing issues, and generation of technical responses to queries from Ships Force, docking facilities, maintenance centers.  Knowledge of sonar dome design, materials, and performance are required. Engineer shall provide technical support for product reliability, quality assurance, and safety. Evaluate bow dome condition through use of radiographs. Prepare reports for immediate action. Radiographic reporting and analysis system shall be managed and maintained. Detailed damage and assessment reporting is provided.

JOB DUTIES:

• Duties can range from providing on-site support for the Program Office to shipyards and ship builders conducting overhauls on DDG-51 and CG-51 Class ships, helping to classify the condition of exiting Sonar Domes on the ship, providing expert advice on installation and/or removals of Sonar Domes.
• Candidates would provide the Program Office with yearly estimates on new manufacture of the domes, and provide technical expertise and advice to manufacturers of the domes.
• Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
• Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives.
• Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies.
• Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. 
• Establishes and recommends changes to policies which affect subordinate organization(s).
• Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. 
• Work is performed without appreciable direction. 
• Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. 
• Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective for desired results.
• Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
• Guides the successful completion of major programs. 
• Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.
• Represents organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects. 
• Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:

• Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, physics, or a related field with 15+ years of demonstrated sonar dome experience (preferred).
• Candidate must be a US Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain a Full DOD Secret Security Clearance.
