SAIC’s Identity and Data Sciences Laboratory (IDSL) is seeking a Behavioral Scientist with a strong background in experimental design and experience working with groups of human-subjects. The IDSL works with state of the art technologies including facial recognition and AI and measures their performance and applicability to new customer use cases. The IDSL performs unique test events with large, diverse groups of human-subjects to identify usability issues associated with biometric technologies and processes. The Human Factors team regularly publishes technical and peer-reviewed papers, and work in an environment that promotes learning and exploration. The behavioral scientist will:
- Guide large groups of human-subjects during test events, performing various roles to assist with data collection.
- Develop materials needed to perform large scale human subjects scenario tests (e.g., signage, training materials, surveys, etc.)
- Analyze data using R and/or Python
- Contribute to government reports and other contract deliverables as well as manuscripts for publication
- Perform video coding analyses and/or coding behaviors in real time and from recorded video
- Conduct site-surveys of biometric technology and processes in operational travel environments
- Perform structured interviews to document operations and human-subjects’ opinions and perceptions
- Work with a diverse team on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing short- and long-term tasks
Qualifications
- BS/MS in human factors, psychology, neuroscience, and 2 years of experience (or similar with 4-years experience ) in human subjects testing including behavioral/physiological measurement, survey design, and structured interviews
- Experience developing human subjects test protocols and interaction scripts to manage and guide large groups of study participants as well as leading test participants through study completion.
- A demonstrated ability to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of behavioral data such as coding of recorded video, analysis of survey/interview responses, numerical response metrics such as reaction times, or similar. This will be demonstrated through technical reports or scholarly publications.
- Knowledge and experience with data analysis tools like R, SciPy, or similar is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience writing scientific/technical reports for expert and non-expert audiences. Please be ready to provide a writing sample.
Target salary range: $85,001 - $95,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
