SAIC is seeking a Sr. Modeling and Simulation Engineer to provide engineering and technical support to a collaborative Government/Contractor Team developing engineering processes for next generation weapons systems in Crane, IN.
Note: This position offers temporary work from home/ remote/ virtual work as part of a virtual team due to COVID-19.
Engineers will help execute NSWC Crane's engineering strategy in support of OSD, providing broad support spanning Systems Engineering and Integration, Technology Capability Assessment, and Test and Transition activities. This position will require heavy interface and collaboration with Senior DoD personnel, multiple DoD primes, and other systems engineers to define and interpret requirements, stand up engineering processes, and provide lifecycle management of the systems and subsystems.
Support the Government Transition Management lead across Transition Enabler activities.
Support development of engineering documentation to assist program operations and facilitate coordinated inter-service technology development (i.e., technology maturation and assessment plans for each S&T project such as development and prototyping plans, test plans, and development schedules for meeting program design updates.)
Help develop the digital infrastructure for information management and M&S tool suite to conduct intra-system analysis and trade studies.
Help develop validation and verification methods.
Develop detailed model-based mission scenarios based on operational needs. Overlay existing and planned employment scenarios and platform threat assessments to identify operational performance risks.
Develop detail threat assessment models (adversarial, environmental, phenomenology) to help standardize assessments across the portfolio.
Support technical reviews of system engineering products and models.
Support technical review and assessment of technologies, concepts and systems. Assess technology models against scenario and threat models. Assess technology performance based on design models to validate threshold and performance objects satisfy performance requirements.
Verify models satisfy interface constraints of targeted transition programs. Support TRL and MRL Assessments for candidate technologies.
Advise on issues of feasibility and applicability of relevant new technologies.
Analyze alternatives to optimize performance and improve understanding of systems architecture and components.
Have a solid grasp of MBSE to effectively communicate system structure, behavior, requirements, and provide parametric analysis to Program Office and Modeling and Simulation stakeholders.
Support development of configuration-controlled processes for data-driven collaboration on hypersonic technology and transition to ensure configuration control of all Systems Engineering Field Activity Artifacts.
Support Systems Engineering, Systems Integration and Test Working Groups.
Demonstrate practical life-cycle systems engineering experience which includes stakeholder needs definition, system requirements definition and management; system architecture, analysis and design; integration, test, and verification; and, system performance assessment.
Develop documents and briefings to clearly communicate work or study status, brief government and industry as required.
Support Test and Transition Coordination activities, including: DT events across Hypersonics T&E Enterprise, System Flight Test and qualification events, Transition Integration to meet design and production on-ramps for multiple programs.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:
Bachelor's and 9 years, Masters and 7 years, or equivalent experience with degree in Engineering Technical Discipline (Aerospace preferred)
Understanding of military weapons systems development and operations.
Solid understanding of DoD Systems Engineering Process and Requirements.
Experience with Requirements Decomposition analysis and Decomposition
Experience with system modeling and analysis (HWIL/SWIL) and Engineering analysis software (FEA, CFD, Multi-Body Physics).
Experience implementing systems engineering plans and MBSE processes.
Experience with Model Based Engineering (MBE) and Model-Based Engineering System Tools and procedures.
Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and coordination skills.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Candidate must be a US Citizen.
Experience supporting Advanced Technology development/transition activities
Prior DoD experience supporting OSD, Navy, or Air Force Programs
Ability to provide technical and programmatic direction on the development, integration and use of MBE and MBSE models.
Ability to mentor the development of MBSE and MBSE systems engineers.
