Job Description


SAIC is seeking qualified candidates to support the US Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) program.

AFAMS is the premier agency responsible for implementation, integration, and development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and training and analysis standards that support the US Air Force (USAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and mission partners requiring these capabilities to support the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations. As the lead agent for M&S within the USAF, AFAMS gathers requirements, seeks out potential solutions, and integrates legacy and emerging M&S solutions across the USAF and the DoD. The USAF has an M&S initiative that focuses on providing simulation and synthetic training as the critical capability to augment live training, act as an enabler for critical decision-making, and enhance human performance. In the current resource constrained environment, demand for M&S rises with the continuously evolving need for operational readiness and mission preparedness across the USAF, DoD, and with coalition partners. AFAMS focuses on providing innovative M&S services as the key to meeting this demand.

The role of this position is to support the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in San Antonio, TX. The candidate must be within driving distance of Joint Base San Antonio, TX but will primarily work from home and only come in to the base as needed. The Scenario Generator will:

  • Develop overarching operational storylines, vignettes, and mission scripting to support the end user’s model and simulation training requirements for select ANG programs.
  • Manage and facilitate a collaborative scenario development approach in coordination with all ANG M&S program stakeholders.
  • Use National Geo-Spatial-Intelligence Agency products and GIS software to build opposing force and blue force order of battle overlays, to generate operational graphics, mission briefs, shape files and other data to aid mission scripting.
  • Expand static cultural features of existing visual databases to set the stage for the scenario operational environment.
  • Maintain scenario generation workstations hardware and software; work with program Training Service Support Centers to plan and synchronize software updates to coincide with fielded systems.
  • Attend model and simulation software user’s group conferences, trade show, professional seminars, and conduct end user’s site visits;
  • Inform NGB leadership of emerging technology, software and hardware replacement and update requirements. 
  • Maintain military skill-set familiarity to ensure product support existing training requirements, are realistic, relevant and doctrinally accurate.
  • Participate in mission scripting acceptance testing to improve scenario products and address fielding concerns.
  • Request visual database support scenario projects; participating in acceptance test to ensure visual database will meets end user training requirements.
  • Update scenario products and prioritizing new projects based on user’s advisory group feedback.
  • Provide end user reach back support on products released.


The following skills are required:

  • 3 + years of professional experience in any battlefield airman career field, or rated aircrew position
  • Experience with:
    • Autodesk - 3DS Max/Motionbuilder
    • Battlespace Simulations Inc. Modern Air Combat Environment
    • MetaVR Inc. Virtual Reality Scene Generator/Scenario Editor/Terrain Tools
    • Adobe Photoshop/Adobe Illustrator
    • Microsoft Office
  • Experience with visual database/synthetic environment development
  • Experience using the Microsoft Windows Operating System, including installing, configuring, networking and troubleshooting PC-based hardware and software
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient organizational and time management skills
  • Bachelors in related field and six (6) years or more of related experience; Masters and four (4) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience

A Secret security clearance is required for this position.
