Description

SAIC is looking to fill a position for a Data Center Technician opening. The candidate will be responsible for supporting existing and future data center environments including cabling, racking and troubleshooting hardware, performing audits, and all other functions related to Data Center Operations.

Some activities you may be asked to work on:

Based on defined set of processes and procedures and under supervision of a Senior Data Center Engineer:

  • Install data center hardware (servers, switches, etc.)

  • Upgrade server BIOS firmware

  • Install cables based on defined cable management policy and procedures

  • Configure and troubleshoot KVM, iDRAC, IPMI, or iLO configurations

  • Monitor data center infrastructure using DCIM and escalate unresolved alarms

  • Assist with capacity and power audits

  • Perform data center and hardware inventory audits

  • Process incoming shipment, label packages, and maintaining designated storage areas

  • Maintain data center organization and cleanliness

  • Handle standard data center operations work requests

  • Escort personnel to and from the data center

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management of Information Systems, or relevant discipline and 6 years or more of related experience; OR High school diploma and 7 years or more of related experience.
  • One or two years of experience working in a data center     
  • Basic familiarity with Dell, HP, and Supermicro, or comparable server hardware and the ability to troubleshoot common hardware problems
  • Previous experience installing and labeling fiber and copper cables based on defined standards and best practices
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and/or Visio
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with other IT professionals outside of the work center
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to translate technical instructions into written procedures
  • This position will require lifting and racking of IT hardware up to 50lbs with assistance, and 30lbs unassisted. Equipment lifting devices are available for heavier components
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
