Description

SAIC has a contingent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the US Army CCDC, C5ISR Center, Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD). This position is contingent upon contract award and will be located at Ft. Belvoir, VA.

The mechanical engineer will take a lead role across all efforts of the NVESD customer as it relates to dismounted, ground vehicular and UAS platforms to support the development and maturation of sensors, algorithms, processing hardware and display systems.

  • Lead designs from concept, prototyping, platform integration and also support experimentation and demonstration activities.
  • Work directly with the government staff and principle and other senior engineers and scientists.
  • Participate in all top level planning discussions to properly account and plan for all mechanical design and integration related activities.
  • Manages a small group of junior engineers and mechanical and electrical technicians to support all integration, experimentation, and demonstration activities.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience
  • Requires a basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts as they relate to grounding/bonding, electrical power distribution & sizing, electrical safety protection, and platform schematic creation and management.
  • Experienced with integration efforts applied to dismounted, vehicular and aerial UAS applications.
  • Must be well versed in 3D CAD applications such as SolidWorks or ProE for modeling and documenting designs.
  • Experienced initiating and running periodic design reviews to provide the customer with visual 3D modeled solutions and manage in-house and external fabrication resources.
  • Proven past success using additive manufacturing techniques should align with small form factor, and custom limited run applications.
  • Requires an understanding of DoD processes to support flight worthiness criteria.


CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
